    • Team Wellington Horror
      • Zephyr Rovers Manager Steve Hall today took advantage of the lack of any decent televised football and took himself to watch Team Wellington play Waitakere at Newtown Park. "I had to get out in the sun but I saw Rikki Herbert there so we were both obviously thinking the same thing" said Hall "that it was a good chance to grab a beer and peruse the skills of some of the best outdoor players in New Zealand. Hall said the only problem was Wellington returned to their previous form and got hammered by 5 - 1.

    • FNZ Soundly Beaten
      • Zephyr Rovers Manager Steve Hall said that Zephyr Rovers had had no problems disposing of lower league opposition today at the Shed of Dreams, despite George Nash (pictured) being full of the flu. "We were five goals to nil up when I decided to have a run in the outfield""said Hall "but when it got back to 5 - 2 I scurried back into the goals for fear of them getting back in it". Hall said Rovers stabilised after his return to goal and Rovers went on to score another four goals unanswered. "I actually had a clean sheet when I was in goal but the stand ins let a couple in" said Hall "and the distribution went from excellent to very poor, which explains why I couldn't buy a goal in the outfield". Hall said the fear was the teams Rovers were playing were not close to the standard of Division 1 so the Rover would have to lift their game several notches if another Div 1 campaign was to be contemplated. "We still need to strengthen the squad" said Hall "unless we end up in Div 2 where we'd be ok".Final: Rovers 9 FNZ 2Zephyr Rovers FC

    • Route announced for Wellington Northern Corridor
      • The NZ Transport Agency Board has announced key decisions on the route for the Wellington Northern Corridor, marking a major milestone in the strategic development of this section of State Highway 1. The corridor, identified by Government earlier this year as one of seven roads of national significance, will be developed as a four lane expressway from Levin to Wellington Airport. The corridor will be built in sections with the overall route substantially completed within the next ten years. Today’s announcement includes the decision to progress Transmission Gully rather than the Coastal Highway Upgrade as part of the Wellington Northern Corridor.

    • Ssendam Rawkustra
      • A multi-headed rhythm beast arising in 2007 out of the murky depths of the South Wellington mental health scene, 12 years, seven practice rooms, 1 album, and countless performances later (including 10 or more outings at the Newtown Fair), the Ssendam Rawkustra are still going strong and are as raw, cuz, as ever! The Rawkustra aim to mesmorise listeners with their musical oxymoron of organised percussionistic chaos, drawing on a plethora of influences from Maurice Ravel to the Doors, under the inspired direction of maestro Andreas Lepper, with spiritual oversight from the Assistant Vicar of Newtown, Reverend Richard Noble.

While there's no single development up for specific debate, this time, feedback is due on the entire draft Waterfront Development Plan, so all the interested parties are having their say.Of the 633 written submissions, 604 were about the future of indoor sport given the changes to Sheds 1 and 6; and in particular, most of these called for the ground floor of Site 10 to become the new indoors sports venue, along the lines of what I've also been suggesting.

    • Congratulations to the Regional Council: a Basin solution without a flyover
      • Congratulations to the Regional Council on the vote last week to revisit Option X. The Architectural Centre’s design beats the Transport Agency’s by integrating needs – it’s more sophisticated than just another stretch of State Highway 1. In 2009, the Civic Trust ran a public seminar about the Basin Reserve area to a packed house. Clearly it showed a successful solution would need to balance the interests of residents, motorists, passengers, pedestrians, and children. This has shaped our flyover response: the flyover doesn’t achieve grade separation from local traffic, and it doesn’t fit its surroundings (SH2 Dowse shows NZTA’s style). There are better ways of improving transport.

    • The Thistle Inn
      • The Thistle Inn was built in 1840. she is the oldest hotel in NZ still trading from the original site. In July 1866 she was burnt to the ground but by December the same year she was back operating. You will see the original beer cellar through the glass floor. She is a Category 1 historic place building and was completely restored in 2004 (as close as possible to how she was in 1866).

    • San Antonio School
      • Welcome to our school …. We’re the “Little School with the Big Heart!” San Antonio is a Roman Catholic Integrated Primary School for girls and boys from Year 1 to Year 8. The school is situated in the beautiful seaside village of Eastbourne, New Zealand. Eastbourne is located on the Wellington Harbour and has a population of 6000 people. The small size of the school fosters the development of a warm and close school community where families interact often and meaningfully. San Antonio’s special character is evident throughout the school in particular in the positive behaviour and attitudes of the children.
