    • Diamonds may have come away with a 5-1 victory, but they were made to work hard for it by a determined Seatoun side that was looking for their first victory over United since 2015. It was Diamonds that dominated the early possession and territory and they went ahead in the 13th minute with youngster Pepi Olliver-Bell netting her first goal for the team. After this Diamonds tried to settle into their usual quick short passing game but Seatoun managed to disrupt them and they never really got into their normal rhythm.

    • In the line of an old Abba song, The Winner takes it All, and so it was in the 2008 Wellington Civic Trust awards last night. A friendly Fish-monger sends in this report from the ceremony in Te Papa: The evening started off promptly, no time for drinkies (or Studio Pacific - who missed out on the news they had won the first prize of the evening by a good 5 minutes!), before leaping straight into the Awards ceremonies. First up was the award for best building in Wellington (constructed in the last 3 years).

    • Zephyr Rovers Manager Steve Hall today took advantage of the lack of any decent televised football and took himself to watch Team Wellington play Waitakere at Newtown Park. "I had to get out in the sun but I saw Rikki Herbert there so we were both obviously thinking the same thing" said Hall "that it was a good chance to grab a beer and peruse the skills of some of the best outdoor players in New Zealand. Hall said the only problem was Wellington returned to their previous form and got hammered by 5 - 1.

• • First XI Cricket beats St Bede's in Cliffhanger

    • Tuesday 16 March 2010: In a cliffhanger ending, the First XI Cricket team has beaten St Bede's of Christchurch to bring home the Cup. Stream had to win outright to regain the trophy while St Bede's only had to bat out the day for a draw.  Declaring early on Day Three after a knock of 101 by Ben Rammell, captain Brandon Tai set St Bede's a target of 280 to win: and a target for his own team of getting all ten wickets! At 5.15 pm this afternoon, the last wicket fell and Stream had won. A fantastic performance by the whole team. The Tennis team played earlier in the day against a strong St Bede's team, eventually losing the series.

    • After one cancellation due to bad weather, an evening paddle took place on Friday 9th of April 2010 in lieu of a normal club meeting. 8 people gathered at Balaena bay at 6:00pm , some paddling from Greta Point where they house kayaks at the Kupe boatshed. It was a perfect evening with a gentle northerly breeze just ruffling the water. We paddled toward Lambton harbour as it was getting dark and the city lights greeted us as we rounded point Jerningham. The fountain was playing and there were a few hopeful fishermen still out on Oriental parade as our small fleet made its way towards the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, nestled in a marina between the Freyberg pool and the Overseas Terminal.

    • As much as we Wellingtonians are happy to live in a "cold-yet-cultural" city, most of us would have to admit that this "summer" has been pretty gruelling. Which is why yesterday, with it's balmy temperatures and spectacular sunset, seemed to switch so many of us into outdoors mode for one delicious evening. Most of Waitangi Park was humming by about 5:30, but even though the lawn was relatively dry and looking sweetly bucolic with its lush grass and clover, it had attracted a grand total of eleven people, mostly on the berms around the edge.

    • Congratulations to the UHCF 11th Grade Storm on a FANTASTIC effort at the KCU Easter tournament. To go through the day unbeaten, score 11 goals and concede only 1 is a brilliant achievement for any team, but to beat Onslow the way they did in that final was outstanding. In the 5 to 6 years I’ve been coaching it was probably one of the gutsiest performances I have seen from a group of kids – they didn’t give an inch, but played hard and fair! Well deserved boys on taking the trophies away this year!!! Important to remember too, these are the twelve best 11th Grade teams in the Wellington District!

    Mike Grace's Cook Strait Crossing Attempt

    • Wellington Senior Men's rower Mike Grace, along with Star rower Ben Dunsheath, set out on 15 March on their first attempt to cross Cook Strait in an ocean-going rowing boat. The forecast was for a great day - 2-5 knot northerly winds and a light sea swell. However, after about half way through the trip (taking an hour and 45 mins) the wind was up to 20 knots, and Mike and Ben were forced to pull out. The attempt has not lowered the spirits of the pair, and they plan on having another crack at the crossing as soon as Wellington's weather co-operates.

    Masters Registrations open for 2020

    • <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > Masters football registration is now open! Inviting existing and new masters players to join the fastest growing area of Island Bay United! Costs are $285 per player for the season, and we have 5 confirmed teams, ranging from Masters 2 to Masters 5. Each team has a minimum squad of 16 players, although most will carry a few more to allow for injuries and player unavailability. Many existing players are local fathers of our junior members or long time friends of the club. Teams also range from competitive to social, but all teams have a great culture and want to go out and have some fun on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon. New players are welcome as we are trying to build a new team this year, so feel free to contact our Masters Coordinator Rod Lawson. You may have played in the past, have been wanting to give football a go or just wanting to get back into doing something active on the weekends. Let us know a little about yourself and what you are wanting out of Masters football when you contact Rod. Sill not sure, come down for one of the social training runs on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning to have a kick and make a call from there! if you are a returning player, please register online at MyComet and you will be allocated to your team separately.

    • Great goals scored by Casey O'Leary (she was out of her usual position of back and was up on the right wing, looked like a bit of a diving shot but think she just fell over!), Wendy Horne (had a short spell at centre forward instead of wing and had her 5 seconds of fame for 1st time this year!), Maree Houston (great goal by Maree, as usual she was in the right place for good shot!) & Debbie Woolcott (great hit from a PC deflected defenders stick into top corner!). Some nice saves by goalie Lyn kept all of there shots out! Great passing and team work gave us a good result.

Vessel located and towed to mooring behind Mana Island. Moored off and mechanic taken on board the following morning of 29/12. Engine successfully started. No further support required. Actual time (5 hrs) was split across two days, but is reported as a single block here.     • Wellington United Diamonds had their third five goal win in a row on Saturday as the downed Petone 5-0 in a W-League game at Newtown Park. The win means they stay in first place on goal difference, but Palmerston North Marist have managed to close the gap to just one goal with a 6-0 win over Seatoun. It took Diamonds just nine minutes to open the scoring through Charlotte Wilford Carroll. It wasn't long before Jemma Robertson thought she had got on the scoresheet tapping in a cross from Dani Ohlsson, but it was somewhat inexplicably called offside and she had to wait to the second half, getting two goals in four minutes to take her tally for the season to 22.

    Review: Twenty Minutes to Nine

    • am genuinely lost for words, trying to describe Twenty Minutes to Nine. It was nostalgic, raw, grim and witty, heart-sinking and furious and so painfully wise. Absolutely phenomenal. The show is personal even before it starts. I’m sitting in the front of two rows of seats, so there’s no doubt it’ll be an intimate show. Amanda (Santuccione (They/Her), the show’s writer and performer) asks what we’re up to afterwards, if we’d be alright to wait another 5 minutes for the last few people. In the end it’s me, a mother-and-adult-son duo, three other women and Amanda. We chat back and forth about hills and penguins, public transport and spilt beer. Then suddenly, with only the quieting of the house music, it begins.

• • Slipped anchor causes collision in Porirua Harbour

    • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 05/02/2013 - 09:00 - 10:00 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  5 The Harbour Master requested the assistance of Coastguard Mana to help resolve a situation caused by severe southerly winds overnight.  A catamaran in Porirua Harbour had slipped its anchor and drifted into a trimaran moored nearby.  Both yatchs were caught together and the strong southerlies had caused the trimaran to puncture the cat above the water line. The owners were on board and declined assistance.
