Wgtn 2040
- Architectural Centre Inc
- The Wellington City Council has at last started the process of telling you about WGTN 2040, the proposed Vision for the future – 29 years in the future to be exact. It has been a long time coming – a couple of years at least, but this is one of the most important consultations that the Council has ever asked the Wellington public for their opinion on. We would encourage all Wellingtonians to have some input on this – and we would also like to hear your views, so that we can also table a submission from the Architectural Centre.

Cooked, served, ate
- Salient
- It’s 4:45 PM on a Wednesday night. Across the city of Wellington, hospo workers are preparing for the dinner shift. They are setting tables, wiping down bars, and fixing kegs. If you’re reading this article, you’re probably a student, and the chances are you’re all too familiar with this ritual. Equally familiar is the pre-shift briefing. Depending on the temperament of your manager, this could sound like anything from group therapy to a fiery military pep talk. Tonight, though, I’ve been invited to sit in on one such briefing for the non-profit restaurant Everybody Eats.

Hard work keeps rail improvements on track
- Metlink
- Metlink is showing its gratitude to Kiwirail and its passengers for their patience, while work went ahead on the Wellington rail network over Summer. Daran Ponter, Greater Wellington Council Chair, said Kiwirail should be proud of its efforts to improve the network’s safety, performance, and sustainability. “I’d like to thank those who worked so diligently on the network during a time when the majority of us were enjoying a break from work,” Ponter said. “I hope they take satisfaction from knowing that commuters will reap the benefits of their hard work now and in the future.” On Boxing Day, work started at Plimmerton Station to build an additional platform, realign the tracks, and enhance safety measures at Steyne and Pascoe Avenue level crossings.

Handmade is the best Made
- The Wellingtonista
- Autumn is upon us, and seasons changing means only one thing in the Wellington Craft World. It's Knack time. Knack time being this saturday from 9.30am till 2.30pm at Berhampore School. Knack is a glorious seasonal market which also doubles as a school fundraiser. So you get to buy handmade from the artist which is grand and then know that you are also helping out a school. It's like double doing good, with shopping . Knack's full of lovely handmade things, and is often where some of Wellington's newests crafters make their selling debut, so it's a great market for those of you wanting to be ahead of the. There's loads of parking at the school or catch the bus and amble up the hill.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.

- After more than 30 years of working closely alongside whānau and hapori (communities) in Porirua, the Hutt Valley and Wellington, we at Wesley have learnt first-hand that with the right support, sustainable responses to complex issues can be driven by hapori themselves. Mount Street Cemetery
- The Mount Street Cemetery was the first cemetery in Wellington for Catholic burials and contains the graves of the first nuns and priests in Wellington. It remained open until 1891 although burials continued in existing family plots until 1954. The earliest surviving grave marker dates from 1851, and the latest from 1954. Although only around 200 headstones survive, it is estimated that there could have been as many as 750 to 800 burials. Many of the early markers were simple wooden crosses, which have long since vanished.
