Pass mark for the park
- WellUrban
- Among the various items on the agenda of the recent Waterfront Development Subcommittee meeting was a review of Waitangi Park. There are five separate PDFs to download there, including a survey of park users and an interesting quantitative study of which sections of the park were being used and when, but the guts of the report is a large tabular Design Quality Audit.

9 months for flyover application to be heard

- Disheartening news that Minister Amy Adams has referred the flyover application to a Board of Inquiry. Members are political appointees and must report back within 9 months, whether this is enough time or not. Furthermore, given that no Board has ever turned down an application before, can we expect that opponents will get a fair hearing? Photo courtesy of odt.co.nz

The North Wellington Public Transport Study (2006)
- Wellington Commuter
- In 2006 the North Wellington PT Study considered four “Scenarios” with the most popular and effective solution being converting the line into a Busway but both TollRail and the Labour government wanted to keep the trains. In November the SKM Stage 3 Report recommended a fifth “Base Case” which was just to replace the old English Electric trains with refurbished Ganz-Mavags EMUs.… Read more ...

Dixon Street details
- Eye of the Fish
- I’ve been wondering what the insides are like on the Dixon Street flats – never been in behind the doors at the base. Perhaps I’ll try to get in, now that they are moving people out. In the WCC Heritage Archive, there are these plans in a report. The only real drawing there is this one, which gives us the overall picture, but not much of the detail.

Building a road and saving 30 seconds
- Wellington Scoop
- One of the most extraordinary things about plans to bulldoze a road through the pristine Takapu Valley is the claim about how much time will be saved. They’re counting the savings in seconds. The claim is found in an Appendix to the controversial report in which the chief executives of regional councils tell their mayors that they ought to support a road through the valley.
