      • KING’S BIRTHDAY– OPEN DAY MONDAY 3RD JUNE, 10AM- 4PM Wellington’s historic Wrights Hill Fortress in Karori will be opening for public inspection again on King’s Birthday, Monday 3rd June. The World War Two coastal battery first opened to the public in 1989 and will be accessible between 10am and 4pm. On King’s Birthday people are invited to self-guide themselves through the tunnels and gun emplacements. The walk usually takes about one hour, so bring a torch with you for some fun! Visitors will be able to explore the 620 metres of underground tunnels with a free map and history pamphlet. They will see the engine room, shell stores, plotting rooms and the huge gun pit where Gun Number 1 used to stand, as well as a replica of the 10 metre-long gun barrel.

      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 27/12/2020 - 18:00 - 20:45 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  11 A small launch on the pole moorings broke its stern line and drifted around on its bow line and wedged itself between the pole and the yacht moored in front of it. We were asked by the pole mooring manager to assist with getting it back on its mooring so that it didn't damage the yacht. MR1 was used to push it around and secure it back in place. Also assisted the Mana Marina manager to recover the turning bouys from outside the entrance that had broken away.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Fri, 22/10/2021 - 21:00 - Sat, 23/10/2021 - 01:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  8 Total Volunteer Hours:  24 Big Ben a 6 metre vessel broke down at Pipinui point after a fishing & diving excursion. Engine would not start. "Sea Patrol" vessel assisted on scene and supplied fuel but engine still would not fire (unknown problem) Big Ben was at anchor and Sea Patrol stood off in support with their tender in the water. MR1 was sent to the scene and started the recovery actions. Big Bens crew was split with 4 on MR1 and 4 remaining on board.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 13/02/2012 - 14:40 - 15:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  7 I diver was reported as missing south of Mana Island near Makara Beach. Coastguard Mana activated a callout but were stood down at 15:30, just as we were about to depart Mana Marina, as the diver had been located safe and well. A vessel had dropped off the diver at 12:30 and then went to a different location, due to return and pick them up at 13:20. When the vessel returned they couldn't locate the diver and started a search, calling Police by phone.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 22/02/2011 - 21:00 - 23:50 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 During training a report came in of a dinghy that had broken down up at Pukerua Bay with three people on board. CRV Pelorus took some new recruits off Trust Porirua Rescue (that had been training) and TPR immediately responded to the scene. Light was fading by this stage and finding the dinghy in the dark was very difficult as they did not have any form of lighting or signalling equipment with them, no VHF, and their cellphone battery was dying - an all too common occurance!       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Wed, 01/05/2013 - 15:30 - 17:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  10 CRV Trust Porirua Rescue responded with six crew to a Police callout.An aluminium dinghy with three men on board had engine failure east of Mana Island.On reaching the scene the vessel Millicent had the dinghy under tow. The tow was transferred to Porirua Rescue and two men were also transferred from the dinghy to increase free board on the dinghy. The dinghy was towed to the Paremata Bridge launch ramp. The two men on Porirua Rescue were dropped off at the Mana Marina Coastguard berth.       • The Thistle Inn was built in 1840. she is the oldest hotel in NZ still trading from the original site. In July 1866 she was burnt to the ground but by December the same year she was back operating. You will see the original beer cellar through the glass floor. She is a Category 1 historic place building and was completely restored in 2004 (as close as possible to how she was in 1866).
