Dave Armstrong on growing up...
- Downstage Theatre
- One of New Zealand's finest dramatic and comedic storytellers, Dave Armstrong has written for stage, screen and print. We put it to Dave that his new play with Capital E: National Theatre for Children, Magnolia Street (25 & 28 July at Downstage) - was the latest example - following the likes of Niu Sila, Bro' Town and Seven Periods With Mr. Gormsby - of his work exploring the experience of growing up. Here's what he had to say about those days when your neighbourhood is your world and anything is possible...

2022 NAGS wrap up
- Tawa Swimming Club
- The National Age Group Swimming Championships (NAGS) started off unusually for Tawa, with the swimmers competing the first couple of days visibly nervous and the team uncharacteristically quiet. The swims were not quite where they should have been, places in finals (top 8 swimmers) were limited, and we just seemed a little bit lost.

Cool events coming up!

They’re labelled “industry events” but we reckon they’re great for anyone nerdy about walking, cycling, scooting, and how they fuel great...

Follow Up: Athfield at Kumutomo
- Eye of the Fish
- Having finally made my way down to the Waterfront Information Center, I was able to take more of a broad look at the Athfield Kumutomo wins. Gale Whips Up Entries
- Wellington Orienteering Association
- Would you believe another record entry - and after a day of gale force winds! In fact the winds died down right on cue as participants were set off four by four on Tony van Dyk's course at Silverstream Retreat. Constrained by the need to cross under a busy road, the course was nevertheless similar to last week - a two-loop micr-o on the Hutt riverbank followed by common third loop through the buildings (ancient and modern) of the retreat. This offered significant route choice so it wasn't just follow the leader, even for those groups which were closely matched.

South Coast Surfs Up
- Eye of the Fish
- Although not an overly frequent frequenter to the suburbs, there is a certain feeling about being by the beach that we quite like: if we weren’t an urban blog, we’d be a seaside blog. Lyall Bay, home of Wellington’s best surf break, and a special spot for windsurfing and kite boarding, is a virtual paradise right on the edge of the capital city. At the edge of the Cook Straight, at times civilised, at other times wild beyond redemption, Lyall Bay is a fantastic place to be in the ‘burbs. In short, the Fish liked to dine at the Maranui Cafe.
