Central Opens 2020 – CANCELLED

- Hawkes Bay Blades were planning on running the Central Opens tournament on 10th and 11th October this year. However, given the ever changing situation we find ourselves in with COVID-19 Alert Levels, it has been decided to cancel the event this year. It is with regret that we make this decision and we look forward to running this tournament next year.

Southern hemisphere’s first electric ferry launched in Wellington
- Greater Wellington Regional Council
- he first fully electric, high speed passenger ferry in the southern hemisphere was officially launched today in Wellington, where the locally built vessel will sail commuters across Te Whanganui-a-Tara. First public transport fare rise in two years balances inflationary costs and affordability

- Greater Wellington will increase standard public transport fares across the region by 6% following a decision at Council today on its Annual Fares Review (AFR). Despite the patronage and farebox challenges of COVID-19, funding efforts to reduce the national driver shortages and high inflation impacting service costs, the regional council has not raised public transport fares during the last two years.

Police appalled by impaired driver

- Police in Wellington are awaiting blood test results taken under the newly introduced Compulsory Impairment Test for a driver seen colliding with several motorway barriers and endangering other motorists. Police Communications received numerous calls from members of the public about a red car travelling up Aotea onramp to the Wellington Urban Motorway on Friday 19 March 2010 at about 6.50pm.

- While the recent chilly weather and snow has brought delight to many Wellingtonians, Downtown Community Ministry (DCM) has concerns for the wellbeing of people living without shelter in the city. In the first quarter of 2011, DCM worked with 19 people who were sleeping rough, or living in cars or garages. This increased by 42% in the second quarter to 27 people.
