      • St Josephs Parish, Upper Hutt, celebrated the first two years of its Catholics Returning Home programme last month in which parishioners have accompanied 25 Catholics on their return to the Church. The CRH team put on afternoon tea on 20 May in the foyer of the church and invited all who had been involved with the programme in the Northern Hutt Valley Pastoral Area to meet those on the journey back to their faith roots.

      • Statisticians openly rejoice in streets of Kelburn Vic has released its Annual Report for 2006, proclaiming that it “highlights a year of achievement by staff, students and alumni”. The report details facts and figures relating to the operation of the University, along with major developments in research.

      • The Wellington Youth Choir will present ‘Opulent Opera – A concert of famous opera choruses and other musical works’ later this month. The 40-strong choir, made up of youths between the age of 17 and 26, includes around 25 Victoria students.

      • First of all I would like to thank each competitor, team manager, team official, and team supporter for their dedication and contribution to Team Vic’s shield defence at Uni Games ‘07. I hold strong admiration to each of you who made sacrifices to support your team mates. As you may or may not be aware, Team Vic was unsuccessful in creating history in defending the Uni Games Shield in Canterbury. However we made a damn good fist of it.

      • Walking along Wai-te-Ata Road, I was bemused to see a group of about thirty people loitering nervously outside an unopened front door. I didn’t know what on earth they were doing until I noticed that several were holding newspapers, while others held maps.

    • Ernest Rutherford hits Cotton Street

      • A life-sized model of Nobel Prize winner Ernest Rutherford was unveiled in the Cotton Building last Wednesday. The model, created for a display in Canterbury museum in 1978, was gifted to Victoria University by Gary Sutton, specialist preparator of the Rutherford statue.

      • A speech about the world acting together to solve future problems won the Plunket Medal Oratory Competition last week. Joe Connell, a member of the Vic Debating Society, took out the prize with his speech called 'Dart', describing how the world map was like a dart board in terms of what circumstances people are born into.
