Art Unveiling
- Amesbury Drive School Blog
- Friday morning: It was a great event - our first powhiri and we received an outstanding art work from the constortium (the group of contractors who built the school). The art work was unveiled by the artist, Jeff Thomson, who was assisted by our two youngest students - Arthur and Ha-Yeon as they unveiled the work. The piece of art, called "Meccano New Zealand", is made of screen printed iron, cut into meccano-shaped pieces, put through a machine, corrugated and then bolted together in the shape of New Zealand.

Tokelau Expo – a different loan request
- Te Papa's blog
- A few months ago we received a rather unusual loan request, on the surface the request looked quite straight forward however on closer inspection it was going to be rather challenging. First of all the Community Mafutaga Tupulaga Tokelau Porirua had asked if they could borrow some of the Tokelauan taoga in the Te Papa Pacific Collection for a big Easter Festival held every two years, this year organised by the local Tokelau community in Wellington. As the community isn’t an institution (which we usually lend to) and because they only wanted the objects for a few hours on Easter Sunday we needed to treat this request a bit differently.

2012 Premier League Matchday reports
- Stop Out Sports Club
- After an entertaining opening game at Hutt Park it was off to Miramar to take on Miramar Rangers. With the great surface of Davey F having some work done, the game was relocated to a pitch right at the other end of the scale, Miramar Park. Both teams were playing a fairly cautious game in the first 20 minutes as they looked to come to grips with the difficult surface and it became clear that the team who made least defensive mistakes would probably pick up the points today.

Te Papa versus the city council
- Wellington Scoop
- While almost everyone else is encouraging the Wellington City Council to cut its spending in order to control the rates, one national organisation is campaigning in the opposite direction. Te Papa is annoyed by the council’s decision to reduce its annual grant from $2.25m to $1m. It has responded by launching a campaign which threatens that Wellington “could miss out” if the grant is reduced.

Up, up and away – the city’s annual rates increase
- Wellington Scoop
- Wellington City Councillors are having difficulty making the savings that they’ve been told are necessary. Mayor Wade-Brown announced last week that they have been unable to resist their annual rates increase. They’re proposing an average increase of 4.1 per cent. But this is not what she had earlier announced. Only three weeks before, she’d said that councillors had agreed to cap the rates increase at 3.8 per cent.

Grant Tilly 1937-2012
- Downstage Theatre
- We were saddened to learn today of the passing of Grant Tilly. Our thoughts and condolences are with Grant’s family and friends. He will be missed by all of us in the industry, and all who have enjoyed his work throughout the last 50 years or more. From stage to screen Grant became one of this country’s most beloved actors. Grant was a part of Downstage from its very earliest years, making his first appearance in 1966 in show whose title alone was so controversial The Dominion newspaper refused to publish it. You’ll Come to Love Your Sperm Test went on to play to more than 5000 Wellingtonians.
