Wellington Storm prizegiving 2023
- Wellington Storm Floorball Club
- Earlier this month, our annual prizegiving took place at Miramar Bowling Club - and despite some classic Wellington weather, there was a great turnout from club members and their families. Angus Stallmann, as acting president, gave a summary of the year (including tournaments Storm had attended or hosted, and how Storm players had performed on the international stage) before prize winners were announced. With the formalities out of the way, the rest of the evening involved a good amount of food, socialising, and a dose of nostalgia with a ‘name the player’ game of old Storm photos.

Belmont Off-Line
- Wellington VHF Group
- The Belmont repeater site has been shut down. The storm over the weekend of 28/29 June has broken the 11kV power line on the Belmont side of the gully. A small slip on the pylon access road and poor track conditions are hampering access. With another bout of bad weather approaching it may be several days before the slip can be cleared and the line is repaired. Anyone who is willing to help clear the slip should contact Peter ZL3TC on (04) 938 3386 or 021 185 0640. Services will be restored as soon as possible.

Bikes on Buses in the draft GWRC Long Term Plan
- Cycling in Wellington
- Greater Wellington Regional Council has included the implementation of bike racks on buses in its draft Long Term Plan, to be investigated and implemented where practical starting in 2017. It has been included in the ‘out years’ of the plan in order that high priority (and costly) upgrades to the rail commuter network may be completed in the short term. It is hoped that the provision of bike racks on buses will encourage cycle commuting by providing a safe, fall-back option for cyclists who are caught out by bad weather, failing light or mechanical problems.

- I’ve been really impressed by the pace of construction of the sparkly-new bypass-of-the-bypass since I’ve got back. Apparently this started in late October, and as I walked by today the road was just about ready for sealing. The new NZTA website doesn’t seem to offer any drawings or maps of this, so for those who haven’t had the chance to see it, I took these pictures a couple of weeks ago to give you an impression of the route.

Rhys Morgan had this to say about the start to the competition, “The CricHQ U19s had a pretty tough start to the competition this year. What has been pleasing is seeing the improvement in the team in recent weeks. This shows the ability of the group to learn lessons and apply those learnings in competitive situations.” Sriram Krishnamurthy put a lot of the development in the squad down to the benefit of being able to use high quality training facilities. “For the past six weeks we have been able train on grass at the Basin Reserve. Basin Pavilion and Spine Study
- Eye of the Fish
- I did have a small post scheduled for tomorrow morning, but the release of both of these today sort of takes precedence! It never rains, but it pours! Seems kind of appropriate, considering the weather we have been having lately. So: seeing as the Basin Reserve “mitigation” study / blatant bribe to the Reserve Trust has been released, and the Passenger Transport Spine study, and the material for the EPA from NZTA have all been released today (there is no coincidence here, it’s all been carefully planned out), and that’s just al too much for me to post on – I thought I’d just throw it open for you to comment on.
