      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 28/06/2020 - 08:30 - 10:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  14 Two vessels were "rafted up" on a mooring in the channel. The mooring appears to have broken below the waterline and the vessels were swept onto the rail bridge with the incoming tide.  Coastguard Mana were alerted to a Facebook post a member of the public had posted and went to invetigate. After assessing the situation it was decided to get them off quickly to minimise damage and risk to trains. A callout was activated and a number of people responded to tow them off the bridge and into the marina.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 18/03/2010 - 21:45 - Fri, 19/03/2010 - 00:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 A Wellington couple aged in their 70's are lucky to be alive after their 25 foot yacht hit rocks off Plimmerton Beach near Wellington on Thursday night. The couple phoned Police on 111 from a cell phone at approximately 9.45pm after their boat hit rocks a few hundred metres off shore; losing power and taking on water. The Police, Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Coastguard were all sent to the aid of the couple, who managed to climb into a small dinghy (in choppy conditions) as their boat sank beneath them.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 21/04/2012 - 16:00 - 17:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  10 A 20ft vessel broke down near the south end of Mana Island after encountering Kelp on the shallow area between Green Point and Mana Island, known as "The Bridge". There were 3 people on board and had been fishing in the area. They were wearing lifejackets and made contact with Police, contact method unknown at time of writing. Coastguard Mana was called out by Police and CRV Trust Porirua Rescue was dispatched to tow them home with 6 crew on board. The vessel was taken under tow and safely returned to Mana Marina.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 27/02/2011 - 06:00 - 14:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Porirua Rescue stood by the 9 metre yacht "Overload" this morning she was participating in the 2 handed around North Island race and damaged her shift keel mechanism in heavy seas North of Kapiti on Saturday. Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast units were involved in shepherding the yacht down to a safe anchorage overnight. The Coastguard Mana Incident Management Team became involved late Saturday evening and made contact with the yachts master and with members of the Mana Cruising Club for advice on getting "Overload" which draws 2.7 metres into safety at Mana.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 28/06/2015 - 03:00 - 03:15 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  1 Young girl was pulled from the water after falling from her kayak, being unable to empty it of water and get back aboard. Episode occurred near the Plimmerton Boating Club later in the afternoon of the mid-winter swim. Her father was anxiously watching from the shore. Fortunately MR2 was exercising close by and was able to respond very quickly. No callout was received - person was observed falling our of kayak by a crew member. The girl was deliver the few meters to shore and advised to take a hot shower - the water was very cold.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 21/01/2016 - 11:00 - Tue, 02/02/2016 - 13:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  4 Total Volunteer Hours:  1160 Smasher, a 27" Pelin motor launch split its hull coming off a wave as it was leaving Porirua harbour (vicinity of the outer reef). Smasher was in transit with another vessel which stood by her Mana Rescue1 was tasked to support by police The owner was able to put the vessel ashore on Mana Island (just north of shingle point) before MR1 arrived on scene. MR1 was able to confirm that the crew of smasher were safe, then start to render assistance to strip the vessel and secure her on shore and stern to sea. Farewell to Andrew Savage, Deputy Principal On Tuesday, we farewelled Andrew Savage who has been one of our Deputy Principals since 2012. Andrew leaves WHS to take up a post at the Teaching Council and their gain is most certainly WHS’s loss.
