A couple of vessels found the kayak and radioed MOC with the details. One of the vessels recovered it and returned it to Mana Marina. Babybel
- Newtown Festival
- Babybel is a femme three-piece band, making grungey shoe-gaze alt-rock. Birthed from the brain of George Banach-Salas, we started out as a two-piece, after Sam & George met at Girls Rock! Pōneke 2019 and had a big nerd out about music and a need for a music outlet. When we decided we needed a bigger sound, Shannen joined as our bass queen in 2020 and thus solidified the dream team that is Babybel.

Things are getting surreal at Te Papa
- The Wellingtonista
- We might be stuck in New Zealand for a while, but that doesn’t mean the world can’t come to us (especially if they’re rich, apparently). That’s the cool thing about the new exhibition Surrealist Art: Masterpieces from Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen He Toi Pohewa: He Toi Marupō o Muhiama o Boijmans Van Beuningen. You’ll get a slice of Europe last century and get to get out of the wind of Wellington all at the same time.

Mystery Matt Breaks Toe
- Land Rovers Football Club
- Three days out from the final against Ten Left Feet, star striker Mystery Matt has broken his toe in an outdoor five a side game. "The lad is quite keen on the game but he was out training against orders" said Land Rovers Manager Steve Hall "and now he'll be out until after the final". Hall said Rovers were underdogs for the final anyway so this would certainly make Ten Left Feet favourite with the bookmakers.

BNU Womens 2nd Team v Naenae 12/04/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- Top of the table clash (BNU 2 – Naenae 3) The BNU Ladies B Team were sadly denied their second win of the season when they stepped up for their top of the table clash with Naenae… The first half was tough going with the ball going from end to end and chances missed by both teams. A scary defensive moment saw Toni showing excellent promise by blocking a low, hard ball that was well on the way to t

Communication, non-communication
- Wellington Scoop
- Fifteen days ago we reported that the Wellington City Council had breached its design brief for the waterfront. Because this was a serious allegation, I referred it to the council and invited a response. Perhaps, I thought, the council might admit it had made a mistake. But since then: silence. The lack of response seems to be a sort of guilty plea from the council, which is usually quick to speak out in its own defence.

Squidward Tentacles washes up in Houghton Bay
- Keith Johnson
- As we all know (or at least those of us who have small children) Squidward Tentacles is an arrogant and egotistical 'octopus' who lives in an Easter Island moai and dislikes his neighbors (especially SpongeBob) for their child-like behavior. He enjoys playing the clarinet and painting self-portraits. Well, one of his close relatives washed up this rainy morning just down the road from our house at Houghton Bay. Jane helped drag it up the beach.

skyline reservations
- Architectural Centre Inc
- Last week news of a proposed hotel development on the site of the Skyline Restaurant at the top of the cable car appeared on the front page of the Dominion Post. The article had salacious details of ‘clandestine dealings’, ‘contractual agreements’, the public and media banned from meetings behind closed doors at WCC and a proposal to revoke the reserve status of an area of the Botanic Gardens to allow for a hotel on the site.

Saving the orchids
- Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush Trust
- Nationally significant research to save rare native orchids is being undertaken in a tiny science lab at Ōtari-Wilton’s Bush in Wellington. Finding Ōtari conservation and science advisor Dr Karin van der Walt and research technician Jennifer Alderton-Moss is a bit of a mission. The pair work from a small cottage behind Ōtari’s plant nursery, hidden from visitors who wander the trails exploring New Zealand’s single largest collection of native plants.

BNU Div 16 v Porirua City - 11/4/09
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- BNU 2 - Porirua City 5 BNU came up against a youthful and skilled Porirua City side at Adventure Park, eventually going down by 2-5 scoreline. In an open, attacking first half BNU found themselves 3 goals down after half an hour but, as last week, fought back well with a strike from John Lee after a determined run into the box and a deft near-post header from Carl Roberts after a concerted period

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
