books, books, books....
- The Wellingtonista
- Collections for Downtown Community Ministry's annual Book Fair Fundraiser are underway. I love the book fair, because you name a book and you'll most probably find it there. Plus you get to go shopping and know that all you money is going to a good cause - like addressing homelessness in Wellington. Scattered around town are wheelie bins for people to donate their unwanted books.

There are 644 off-street parks, leaving 604 car owners to park in the 938 Residents or Coupon parks. In Mt Cook there are 726 residents or coupon excemption permits currently issued. Call for a New York Look To Wellington
- Auckland Trains
- The full redesign of Wellington’s lower Cuba Street is now impossible to implement before the Rugby World Cup, according to Wellington’s mayor who says this is because of a delay in legal issues. The deal for allowing buses to be rerouted through Manners Mall to improve public transport was that there would be better public space in lower Cuba Street. Today, Cr Celia Wade-Brown urges council staff to investigate temporary improvements so shared space can be initiated as soon as the bus route moves.

wiggly
- Eye of the Fish
- Tory Street, 2012: the year this city got its wiggle on. I can’t overstate how much fun this building is – a plan, ugly, bog-standard black box of a building with the world’s worst pudding basin hairdo before (Mansard Roof, pug nose: traincrash ugly), this little Tory St palace has been transformed into a wiggly white worm, snaking its way along the street. I can’t believe how much fun you can evidently have with a piece of powdercoated white aluminium angle, and a laser cutter.

Mount Street Cemetery
- The Mount Street Cemetery was the first cemetery in Wellington for Catholic burials and contains the graves of the first nuns and priests in Wellington. It remained open until 1891 although burials continued in existing family plots until 1954. The earliest surviving grave marker dates from 1851, and the latest from 1954. Although only around 200 headstones survive, it is estimated that there could have been as many as 750 to 800 burials. Many of the early markers were simple wooden crosses, which have long since vanished.
