Diesel-to-electric bus conversion and Sky Stadium projects seek funding from Greater Wellington for low carbon initiatives
- Greater Wellington Regional Council
- Greater Wellington’s Climate Committee has recommended that the regional council fund two projects aimed at lowering the regional council’s carbon footprint. Metlink has applied for funding to reduce bus emissions through a diesel-to-electric power bus conversion trial, and the Wellington Regional Stadium Trust applied for funding for a study into reducing Sky Stadium’s environmental footprint. Both were considered at today’s Climate Committee meeting. Metlink seeks $550,000 to convert a diesel-powered bus to electric power and trial its operation in the Metlink fleet.

Patea-Fereti to run out for 100th First Class Match as Pride Named to take on Waikato
- Wellington Rugby Football Union
- The Wellington Pride conclude their 2023 campaign this weekend, as they head to Hamilton to take on Waikato on Sunday. Captain Jackie Patea-Fereti will run out for her 100th First Class Match, after reaching 75 games for the Pride earlier in the season. Patea-Fereti made her Pride debut in 2006, the year the Pride won the title. Coming off the bye week, Head Coach Fusi Feaunati has made some changes to the side that went down to Bay of Plenty. “We’re looking to put out a polished performance to end the season on a high, the girls have worked hard and deserve nothing less to wrap up the campaign” said Feaunati.

Pedestrianisation
- Eye of the Fish
- The Golden Mile is going to be pedestrianised – and that is great news. Great news to me, great news for Wellingtonians, great news for visitors to our city if they ever return, but apparently some of the retailers along Lambton Quay feel that this is not great news. I’m not sure why – nobody in their right mind tries to drive to their favourite retailer in Wellington at the moment, so I’m not sure why they would in the future.

A Mt Cook resident explains why a flyover would be bad for the city
- Wellington Scoop
- I would like to attend the Wellington Regional Council meeting when they discuss the traffic around the Basin Reserve. But I cannot, because it’s being held during a business day. Such meetings should really be held at times when community representatives would be more likely to attend. Though I can’t get to the meeting, I want regional councillors to be aware of my opposition to raised-roading around the Basin Reserve. Neither of the two raised road options will do anything to enhance the Basin environment.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
