Volunteers needed for our Annual Street Day Appeal
- Wellington SPCA
- Can you support Wellington SPCA? Our Annual Appeal Street Collection is just over three weeks away and we need your help! Because we don’t recieve any direct government funding, the donations we receive from our supporters are really vital to us and allow us to continue with our work. Last year we raised a record $52,000 and it would be simply fantastic if we could beat that record this year. We will be collecting on Friday 12th November in Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti and on Saturday 13th November in Lower Hutt. We’ve heaps of places available for volunteers on the day – you can collect for an hour or two or be a coordinator looking after a team of collectors at a particular site. If you want to support Wellington SPCA – this a great way to get involved. Please contact Trina at Trinah@wellingtonspca.org.nz or phone her on 04 389 8044 ext 816. Thank you!!

New group campaigning for council’s Spatial Plan
- Wellington Scoop
- A new campaign has launched to support the Wellington City Council’s proposed Spatial Plan, which aims to set a blueprint for more affordable housing as the city grows. A City for People is a non-partisan group of Wellingtonians who share a progressive and sustainable vision for Wellington. We see the Spatial Plan as an important opportunity to put people first and make a plan to share our city as it grows. “We’re asking Wellington City Councillors to support the Spatial Plan so all generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and we have a chance to live in an affordable, warm, dry home,” said City for People spokesperson Isla Stewart.

Coffee for John Key and America’s Cup fans

- Tonight we went to the opening of the Nespresso “boutique” on Lambton Quay, because frankly, we’d go to the opening of envelopes if they involved Louis Roederer champagne(1) (although a number of people we know turned down the invitation, sent us links to a Buzzfeed article about disposable pods and then commissioned haikus) and it was […] The post Coffee for John Key and America’s Cup fans appeared first on The Wellingtonista.

Bus corridors, paying for Park and Ride and pets on public transport up for consultation in Wellington plan
- Greater Wellington Regional Council
- New regional bus corridors, paying for parking at train station Park and Rides, and pets on public transport are among public consultation topics in the draft Wellington Regional Public Transport Plan 2025-2035. Feedback is also being sought on cash free buses and the redevelopment of Waterloo Station into a transport hub with commercial and community spaces. Greater Wellington chair Daran Ponter says the plan proposes affordable investments that improve the passenger experience and encourage people away from using private vehicles.

DIAMONDS MADE TO WORK HARD FOR WIN - WELLINGTON UNITED
- Wellington United AFC
- Diamonds may have come away with a 5-1 victory, but they were made to work hard for it by a determined Seatoun side that was looking for their first victory over United since 2015. It was Diamonds that dominated the early possession and territory and they went ahead in the 13th minute with youngster Pepi Olliver-Bell netting her first goal for the team. After this Diamonds tried to settle into their usual quick short passing game but Seatoun managed to disrupt them and they never really got into their normal rhythm.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
