    • In memory of Graham ‘Ace’ Mulholland
      • Sad news that long-time member Graham Mulholland passed away earlier this month, and our thoughts go out to his family. Mark Leggett writes … Graham and his daughter Daisy were members of the club during the last two decades. Graham stumbled upon the club on a walk as he was clearing his head one Sunday afternoon. After exclaiming he might like to have a hit, a club member gave him a racquet, and as the saying goes, the rest is history. Graham was a colourful club day member, and he brightened the day for everyone with his quick wit and always asking opponents if they were ready to be aced by one of his sizzling fast serves. Graham enjoyed the social side of the club and was often seen on the deck by court one deep in conversation and holding a bottle in his hand while also giving advice to those playing that they shouldn’t give up their day jobs after missing the ball or double faulting. As William Wallace said… Every man dies, not every man truly lives … Graham certainly truly lived … RIP Graham. (Graham Mulholland – 1945-2019.)

    • First day on new courts
      • A warm, sunny winter’s day and a great turn-out of around 30 people was a fantastic way to re-open the club today (Sunday, 7 June, 2020) after the COVID-19 close-down and to celebrate the completion of our four new courts. [See image gallery at wellingtontennisclub.org.nz]

    • Tennis restarts tomorrow, Covid rules apply
      • With tennis starting up at the club again tomorrow, we have put some steps in place — guided by Tennis NZ — to help keep everyone safe when people are on club premises. Please read them here: https://wellingtontennisclub.org.nz/covid-safe-play-guidelines/ And happy hitting!

    • Organised tennis cancelled due to the coronavirus
      • Dear club members, because of the coronavirus risk, Tennis NZ has cancelled all organised competitions until 2 May, so no interclub this weekend or for the next month or so. Tennis NZ also recommends we cancel organised club sessions: so no more Sunday club days until 3 May (and no more Wednesday club nights until after the winter). You can read the full Tennis NZ statement here: https://tennis.kiwi/covid-19/. It also has useful information on how to take sensible health precautions at the club and on court. For more coronavirus health advice, here is the government’s official advice page: https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-novel-coronavirus-health-advice-general-public. Take care, look after yourselves and each other, and we’ll look forward to organised tennis swinging back into action in the not-too-distant future.

    • Good deal on racquet stringing
      • Here’s a great stringing deal from our club coach and stringer Marcel. Until Friday 21st Feb: only $40 for a restring. (Most places charge around $60 these days.) Marcel says he has a good range of co-polyester strings and has been stringing for more than 10 years. Call him to discuss string and tension. Marcel is on 027 630 8627. He can do drop-off and pick-up from Wellington Tennis Club.
