      • Three scouts (that I am aware of) attended the Mud Slide 2019 at Pukera Bay den on Saturday.  The grins were huge on all the faces I saw.  Seth, Rosie and Calvin all had a fantastic time.  Below are a few pictures of them (I missed Seth, so there aren't any of him).

Q: What is it like working on a professional show for Circa?  Charli Gatrell (Ensemble): It’s intense! I’ve done a lot of theatre, but this is six days of rehearsal a week, it’s not like anything I’ve done before. It’s a full time job, and I love it!  Auburn Crombie (Ensemble): It’s incredible. I didn’t expect to work on a professional show as a first year. Coming in, I didn’t think it would start straight away, it’s honestly like nothing I’ve done before!  Vanessa Immink (Ensemble): Well, it’s full-time. All the other shows we’ve done apart from school shows, have been part-time. This is pretty much nine to five every single day. Sometimes we’re needed and sometimes we’re not, but it’s just so cool being in the Circa environment, working alongside professionals and having the Box Office just downstairs. It’s very… real! Q: What do you love about Musical Theatre? Ben Patterson (Neville Landless): For me, it sounds silly, but it’s what I love doing. It’s good, because I don’t think I could do anything else, but it’s lucky I got forced to audition for Musical Theatre in high school, which has lead me down this crazy path that I love.  Q: Is this something you expected you would get the chance to do during your time training at Whitireia? Flora Lloyd (Helena Landless): When they announced they were doing The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and they were getting the students to be involved I was super excited! It’s my third year studying musical theatre, and it’s just a great opportunity. I am getting to put on my “Body of Work” and be in a professional Circa show. It’s a great experience!  Q: What’s the best part about rehearsals? Flora Lloyd (Helena Landless): I’m a huge observer of the professionals working. It’s thrilling to see them in their element and learn from them.  Bronte Fitzgibbon (Ensemble): It has to be getting to know everyone. Usually the third year students are a little segregated due to their work load and timetable, but now we are right there with everyone working and bonding together on The Mystery Of Edwin Drood.  Auburn Crombie (Ensemble): I couldn’t pick who was second year or third year. They were all so welcoming to us first years and it felt like a big family from day one. It has only been a few weeks and we’re all very close friends!  Q: What’s it like to work with Lyndee-Jane? Vanessa Immink (Ensemble): She is so expressive and enthusiastic! She is like an ever-ready battery that just keeps going, it’s amazing! She is incredibly invested and is making sure everyone is having a good time and is involved.  She is so detailed about her work but she makes it so fun, you forget you’ve been working for hours! Q: How did this project come about? Lyndee-Jane Rutherford (Director): I’ve worked at Whitireia before with our amazing Musical Director, Michael Nicholas Williams, and our stunning Choreographer, Leigh Evans. We decided to pitch The Mystery Of Edwin Drood to Circa, never for a second thinking they would take it. Michael threw the comment away that we could use the students for the ensemble. Next minute, Circa has said yes and we have the entire three years of performing arts students in the show!  Q: How do you feel to be directing this massive show at Circa? Lyndee-Jane Rutherford (Director): This is possibly one of the biggest productions Circa has ever done. I have moments of absolute terror, times of sheer joy and that grateful feeling - “how lucky am I” -  that I have all these people supporting me. Everyone has been hugely positive, energized and excited by this massive undertaking!

It is Gala day for women’s rugby so this means that the fixture is to be played out at Fraser Park on the artificial turf. This is a big day for Women’s rugby and a big day for Dave Jensen who’s family have generously donated this trophy. There aren’t many games left for the Impalas this season so if you have been thinking about coming along to watch this is your ideal game! I know the team would love to see some supporters! Wear some OBU colours or make yourself known to the team staff by giving them the nod and the thumbs up! More about the cup itself The Jensen Family Cup is to be played between the Marist St Pats women and Old Boys University Impala teams. It has been donated by the Jensen family. Michael Jensen was a player in the first-ever Marist St Pats trophy-winning side, the Junior 1st’s in 1971. He also played for Wellington Juniors in the same year. Dave Jensen was the coach of the first-ever Old Boys University Women’s trophy-winning team in 2016. He also went on to be a part of the Wellington Pride coaching set up.     • Questionable numbers in Regional Council plan to close Kaiwharawhara station
      • The reason for closure is that the overbridge which was built in 1934 has recently been deemed unsafe because too little has been spent on maintenance and it is now heavily corroded from the sea air. As a result the station has been temporarily closed. Tranz Metro and the Regional Council are now considering what to do ‘long term’ with the least cost scenario to repair the bridge requiring half a million dollars. However, the mention of this work apparently triggers the legislative need for a passenger ramps to meet wheelchair users which would raise the cost to $2.4 million. So the Regional Council Engineers want to close the station, citing – in their report to be put to the Council tomorrow – that only 14 commuters use the service in the AM peak.

      • CORPORATE ROWING 2015 – WELLINGTON ROWING CLUB This is a business team challenge for any work team, social group or individual and will be ideal for :  building teamwork  encouraging colleague support  developing a team focus and commitment  fostering and boosting personal health and fitness  creating motivation and enthusiasm  providing fun and enjoyment  helping networking within the business community Mixed corporate 8 race on the Whanganui River as part of the training camp Corporate Challenge as an introduction to rowing: The Corporate Challenge is a good opportunity for anyone with no rowing experience to participate in an introductory program, before contemplating joining the club as a Novice rower. It works equally well as a stand-alone program. The Corporate Challenge runs from May to August. Key Dates  Land based Fitness training – Commences 5:30pm Tuesday 12thMay at Wellington Rowing Club.  Corporate Challenge Briefing 2.30pm Sun 10th May upstairs at the Wellington Rowing Club  Training camp in Wanganui date July 11th/12th 2015  Practice Regatta at the completion of Training camp  Indoor Rowing competition 6pm Monday 10th August  Corporate regatta 1000 metres Saturday August 15th (reserve day Sunday 16th – dependent on weather) This date will be confirmed once we have confirmation from Wellington Rowing Association. * Note that these dates are indicative – final dates yet to be confirmed based on the Wellington Rowing Association’s regatta programme – and the much-revered Wellington weather!! A final couple of words: We do endeavour to accommodate everyone that is interested in rowing. As there is a random element to the breadth of fitness etc of a crew, we ask that people allow for this. In addition, the Club is constrained in it’s boat and coaching resources. We will accommodate as many people as we can without overburdening the facilities, but it is possible that we will have to turn some people away. Our policy will be first-in, first-served.       • The Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club (LHAAC) caters for children aged 7-15 years. The 2006-07 season runs from 25th October to 15th March. Club nights offer a mixture of competition and coaching to enable children to gain the necessary skills to participate in a variety of running, jumping and throwing events. The club meets at the Hutt Recreation Ground on Wednesday nights from 6.00pm-7.30pm.
