Wgtn Car Ban Talk
- Auckland Trains
- Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast today called for private cars to be banned from the Golden Mile within 10 to 20 years, following planned developments such as opening Manners Mall to buses, overhauling roads near the Basin Reserve and building a second Mt Victoria Tunnel And the Greens say they support the proposal to make the Golden Mile car free with only public transport, but said Wellington should give priority to light rail and pedestrian space in the Golden Mile now, not in 10 to 20 years.

Almost Over PT!
- Auckland Trains
- As often stated here, public transport only wins hearts when it is reliable. We can’t expect a perfect 100% run – road works and accidents hold up buses, rail is prone to breakdown and operational issues. But I have struck it bad this week and it’s highlighted to me how important it is to bring forward as a priority the plans for realtime information for train stations.

BNU Masters 3 v Western Subusrb - 15 May 2010 at Ngatitoa
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- Readers with long memories or empty lives will recall that the report of the first-round game against Wests (http://www.bnu.org.nz/sca-match-reports/16-masters-3/173-bnu-masters-3-v-western-suburbs-4310) ended with the warning that the return match would be tighter. And so it was, even though Wests are the only team below us on the table - their defence was much better organised, their keeper was in that position by choice, and one midfielder in particular caused us a lot of trouble in the second half.

Manners Mall submission
- Architectural Centre Inc
- The Architectural Centre has made the following submission : Manners Mall Carpark on the WCC’s proposal’s for the redevelopment of Manner’s Mall. As you may note from the written and drawn information, we were very much less than impressed. We are calling for the WCC to scrap the current scheme owing to its predominate use of car parking, and to re-design the spaces for the use of people, not cars. Wellington deserves better than this from our Council, especially at such an important, central city site.

Wgtn Transport Gets Real-Time Info
- Auckland Trains
- Wellingtonians are one step closer to knowing when their bus or train will actually arrive, with a pilot of the region’s real time information system getting underway, Real time information will enable commuters to find out (through the Internet, texting or signage at stops) exactly when their buses will arrive, based on the actual location and progress of the bus, which is monitored through GPS.

The pressure to spend more money, and the worry of a bad reputation
- Wellington Scoop
- The Wellington City Council’s waterfront company is keeping the pressure on councilors to pay for two expensive and controversial projects which haven’t yet been approved. By June next year, says Wellington Waterfront Ltd in its Statement of Intent which was given to councilors on Friday, plans for the temporary ice skating rink and the temporary sideless tent “will be significantly advanced, if not completed.”

Review: Lagerfield
- The Wellingtonista
- Last year, for the second time in a row, Team Wellingtonista won the Webstock Pub Quiz (we intend to win it this year too, by the way). Our prize was a $300 tab for Lagerfield at 21 Blair Street. Having been there late at night when it was full of munters, I was not overwhelmed with enthusiasm, but as it turns out, it was a lovely experience.
