    • Wgtn Car Ban Talk
      • Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast today called for private cars to be banned from the Golden Mile within 10 to 20 years, following planned developments such as opening Manners Mall to buses, overhauling roads near the Basin Reserve and building a second Mt Victoria Tunnel And the Greens say they support the proposal to make the Golden Mile car free with only public transport, but said Wellington should give priority to light rail and pedestrian space in the Golden Mile now, not in 10 to 20 years.

    • Almost Over PT!
      • As often stated here, public transport only wins hearts when it is reliable. We can’t expect a perfect 100% run – road works and accidents hold up buses, rail is prone to breakdown and operational issues. But I have struck it bad this week and it’s highlighted to me how important it is to bring forward as a priority the plans for realtime information for train stations.

    • Wgtn Transport Gets Real-Time Info
      • Wellingtonians are one step closer to knowing when their bus or train will actually arrive, with a pilot of the region’s real time information system getting underway, Real time information will enable commuters to find out (through the Internet, texting or signage at stops) exactly when their buses will arrive, based on the actual location and progress of the bus, which is monitored through GPS.

    • Busy Weekend For Wellington Rail
      • A busy weekend coming up for Wellington rail improvements. In the main railway station yard, workers will progress the installation of a third main line at the entrance to Wellington Station, which once operational later this year. Elsewhere on the network, upgrade work will continue on the overhead lines which power Wellington’s electric trains. As part of the current upgrade, KiwiRail is installing almost 230 km of wiring and replacing many of the wooden poles which support those wires.
