    • Biking around the bays is a stunning ride. But it could be ruined if traffic trebles. Cyclists will be forced off the road. Next Wednesday, Wellington City Councillors vote on a proposal to develop Shelly Bay, permitting a giant housing and shopping development. But there’s no plan to upgrade Shelly Bay Road. That could mean 3-4 vehicles every minute along a narrow road, trying to pass on blind corners. Cyclists could be expected to share a 1.5 metre path with pedestrians.

    • If the recent SW Short Course champs is anything to go by, 2007/08 looks set to be a bumper year for local and national records set by Wellington swimmers. 28 local and 4 national records were broken at the meet, beating the 27 local and one national record set in 2005/06. Wellington swimmers are well on track to surpass the 59 SW and 8 SNZ records broken in 05/06 and we still have 7 months to go!

The conditions at the time were rough with a 25-35kt southerly, but the vessel was tucked in near the coast.     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 23/01/2012 - 18:15 - 21:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  29 A 5m runabout with battery fault was reported to Coastguard Mana as anchored just north of Mana Island. Located vessel with 2 people on board with PFD's and hand held radio (no flares, no torch, no GPS) drifting almost 4NM north of their reported location. Initially flat battery - jump started & headed to Paremata boat ramp - motor died opposite Hongeka Bay - run out of fuel - boat taken under tow @ 2025.     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Mon, 17/05/2021 - 18:30 - 21:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  15 Prepared to move H28, wind gusting 25 to 30 knot NW.  Route to berth varable wind direction, vessel on inide corner of fairway sticks out by a metre making turning with NW hazardous.  Finger on Western side with vessel with prominent anchor protruding outside berth pole line.  Too high a risk to attempt so aborted.  Stopped at 2 x yachts with bad hallard slap and remedied.  Went through two fire drills and an abandon ship.
