    • In the Museum of Curious Intent
      • When Arlo Edwards approached an art dealer with his work at the age of eighteen, the dealer told him to "come back in 10 years, and then maybe we’ll look at your work". Not content with such a response, Arlo embarked on a somewhat unorthodox curatorial career, and has been putting on exhibitions when and wherever he could for more than a decade. Toi Pōneke Gallery is the next venue for one of his projects, an exhibition of work by 10 local established and emerging artists.

    • P-Team World Mountain Running Championships
      • This event is open to all Scottish members over 18 and involves the consumption of a pie and beer before ascending up the tip track to the radar station, where another can is consumed before heading to the finish line at the wind turbine. Alternatively, you can choose the soft option and just do the run. The event is wide open this year with the main contenders - Rohan Biggs and Grant McLean - opting to save themselves for Masterton the next day. Entries are now open.

    • Laying a campaign trail
      • I am afraid that I have become caught up in my electioneering – such that I have now committed myself to walking every street in the Southern Ward, dropping a calling card in every letter box, and talking in an open and friendly way to those fellow citizens who are out and about. Since I am largely a house husband at present and the boys are at school, my week-day mornings are pretty much free. So the map is a report back on progress so far.

    • Patrol
      • wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I arrived at the police station. The others were waiting. I got into the waiting patrol car, and buckled up. I was going out on community patrol in Naenae. Community patrols work alongside police to build safer communities, providing an extra set of eyes and ears. We drove a random route but to some set areas, through schools, up alleyways behind businesses, making sure the streets were safe and providing a visual deterrent for tagging and other crime.

    • Dave Armstrong on growing up...
      • One of New Zealand's finest dramatic and comedic storytellers, Dave Armstrong has written for stage, screen and print. We put it to Dave that his new play with Capital E: National Theatre for Children, Magnolia Street (25 & 28 July at Downstage) - was the latest example - following the likes of Niu Sila, Bro' Town and Seven Periods With Mr. Gormsby - of his work exploring the experience of growing up. Here's what he had to say about those days when your neighbourhood is your world and anything is possible...

    • Voices of support
      • We've been heartened and humbled by the messages of support and goodwill we've received over the last week. As we set to work over the next few months revitalising and strengthening our theatre ahead of 2012, knowing our community is behind us is vital. We have a number of events and initiatives planned where those who have asked how you can help will be able to make a real difference. In the meantime, we'd like to share some of the kind words we've received.
