Fantastic news!
- Save Crossways campaign
- At today's Strategy & Policy Committee meeting, the Council voted to give Crossways a 12 month reprieve by providing some interim funding to St Andrews. This will allow enough time for the community to form a trust, put together a plan to re-invent Crossways for the 21st Century, and conduct some serious fund-raising. It's not the three years we asked for, but it's fair, reasonable, and - most of all - achievable. It's a fantastic outcome! Our heart-felt thanks go to St Andrews for their flexibility and genuine commitment to finding a workable compromise, and to the Council who have allowed the community the time to re-invent our community house. We'll post more information about what needs to happen next as soon as we can.

Wellington Sea Kayak Network visit the Yacht Club
- Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club (Inc)
- After one cancellation due to bad weather, an evening paddle took place on Friday 9th of April 2010 in lieu of a normal club meeting. 8 people gathered at Balaena bay at 6:00pm , some paddling from Greta Point where they house kayaks at the Kupe boatshed. It was a perfect evening with a gentle northerly breeze just ruffling the water. We paddled toward Lambton harbour as it was getting dark and the city lights greeted us as we rounded point Jerningham. The fountain was playing and there were a few hopeful fishermen still out on Oriental parade as our small fleet made its way towards the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, nestled in a marina between the Freyberg pool and the Overseas Terminal.

Casino Royale (with cheese)
- Eye of the Fish
- I mentioned this project in passing the other day, in a post about the return of the cranes to the city skyline, and thought its worth having a bit of a closer look at it this morning. I’ve been sneaking off into Moore Wilson’s car park to take photos every so often, and so this first photo is from a few months back, when just a skeletal framework is showing. There is, to my eye anyway, something quite beautiful about the clear simplicity of the structure on this building: there’s an insitu concrete wall, and then there’s some steelwork. The columns are relatively small and slender – the work is being done by the concrete wall, and so all these babies have to do is cope with gravity.

Mt Cook summit
- WellUrban
- Mt Cook has been facing a few changes recently, and the locals have been vocal in their response. The next step is a well-publicised public meeting tomorrow night, and it will be interesting to see what comes out of that.Quite apart from specific issues of supermarkets, swimming pools and traffic, I get the feeling that Mt Cook has long faced a more fundamental question: one of identity.

P2 Men Vs Northern United 18/08/07 Lost 2 - 0
- Upper Hutt Hockey Club
- t was a hard fought game which unfortunately did not bring about the win upper hutt so desperately wanted. A generally well contested game was marred by a brain explosion by the Northern Goalie who pushed over an upper hutt player well after the play of the ball. Too few opportunities were created on attack and despite having more PC's than in previous games the execution was terrible.

Apologies for the poor picture quality, need to start getting us those press releases.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
