Photographs - Charles Edwards
- Black Coffee
- <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > "Long is the way and hard, that leads out of hell up to light" These photographic works are an interpretation of, and were taken and produced, during a 400 day journey of sobriety after a lifetime addiction to alcohol. The images are a visual commentary on my personal labouring in the darkness, the damage it caused, and the journey to a lighter and brighter future of sobriety. Expressed through light and shadow. Hand printed in the darkroom, from 35mm and 120 roll film black and white negative, onto fiber based art paper and then selenium toned for warmth and archival permanence. Charles Edwards worked in the screen industry playing with cameras. This led to playing with still cameras. Then the often obsessional and inevitable segues this passion has to playing in the darkroom. And has been freezing photons with film - since 1997. Currently working as a full time Dad by day and a photographic darkroom artist by night.

Will an extended lockdown cost more lives than it saves?

JUNE
- Slow Boat Records
- Howdy, y’all! Trusting everybody is well and good as we (finally!) head into the cooler months – I mean, you really can’t complain TOO much when it’s blimmin’ JUNE and the weather hasn’t been too savage, right?! Anyhow – plenty to be getting on with here at t’Boat – we were surprised and chuffed to get a shoutout from Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon at his recent show, for an Andre Segovia CD set he bought off us last time he visited Wellington in 2008, and we are also looking forward to forthcoming shows from Nadia Reid, Aldous Harding, Warpaint (!!!) and Lloyd Cole… You may also wish to spend some quality time with exceptional new releases from the aforementioned Aldous Harding -her glorious third album, “Designer” is a cracker, along with Mavis Staples‘ excellent Ben Harper-written/ produced set “We Get By”, Sharon Van Etten‘s lovely “Remind Me Tomorrow”, the return of Vampire Weekend with the hefty “Father Of The Bride”, or Big Thief‘s mysterious and lovely “UFOF”… we are also packing a fresh batch of stylin’ Slow Boat tees in some new colours and a range of sizes – a charcoal coloured one, and a reddish-marle are my picks of the litter… We also have tonnes of new posters to brighten up the walls of your pad, DVDs and box sets to hunker down with, a heap of nice priced new vinyl from the good folks at Universal Music NZ, and if you were wanting a special order from the US, say – an order going early next week… do feel free to drop us a line and enquire about anything you fancy. Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet
- Pāuatahanui Inlet is the only large estuarine wetland left in the lower half of New Zealand's North Island. It is at risk, mainly from human activities in both the Inlet and its catchment. We call ourselves the 'Guardians of Pāuatahanui Inlet' because we work to promote recognition of the ecological, recreational and cultural values of the Inlet.

Friends of Maara Roa
- Maara Roa is a forest restoration project at Cannons Creek Valley near Porirua. Its purpose is to restore the Bush back to what it was before the people who ruined it came. The project started in 2000, after some gorse fires destroyed yet more sections of native bush. A small group of people met to see if something could be done to stop it. The Friends of Maara Roa grew from that.

The life and times of James Walter Chapman-Taylor
- ‘The life and times of James Walter Chapman-Taylor’ enables us to enter into the life and times of a man, a family, a society, and ways of thinking and acting different to, yet not so distant from, our own. We enter the world of an architect, who is also an artist; builder, craftsman; a theosophist, an astrologer, a photographer, a furniture maker.
