- Wellington Tennis Club
- Two wins and two losses saw a mixed weekend for our four top teams in interclub last weekend. Men’s Premier 1 were beaten 1-5 by an experienced Paraparaumu Beach team. Women’s Premier 1 went down 2-4 to Titahi Bay. Men’s Premier 2 scored a big 6-0 win over Miramar B. Women’s Premier 4 took the points against Kilbirnie in a very tight 3-3 tie that they won on game countback 68-63.

- Crabs, shrimps, lobsters, barnacles, slaters and other crustaceans are the stars of a new mini exhibition presented by NIWA and Te Papa. Opening 22 May, Mawhiti Tino Rawe | Clever Crustaceans is a playful exploration of the bizarre and diverse world of five marine crustaceans. They can change their shape, circle the globe, and maybe even cure cancer – crustaceans are the unsung heroes of the sea. NIWA scientists Rachael Peart and Kareen Schnabel worked with Te Papa experts to deliver this mini exhibition that showcases the importance and special capabilities of the ‘insects of the sea’.

John Key Rotary Breakfast raises Funds for Wellington Children’s Hospital

- The Rotary Club of Port Nicholson recently held a fundraising breakfast at the Intercontinental Hotel in Wellington for 220 guests. Funds raised are to go to Wellington Children’s Hospital. Ian Patterson from Just Patterson Real Estate auctioned off a number of items at the breakfast. The Foundation is very appreciative of the support of the Rotary Club. Funds raised will go towards much needed equipment in the childrens hospital.

The project started in 2000, after some gorse fires destroyed yet more sections of native bush. A small group of people met to see if something could be done to stop it. The Friends of Maara Roa grew from that.
