Illegal, hazardous dumping in Hutt River increasing
- Greater Wellington Regional Council
- The dumping of hazardous material including asbestos is part of the growing fly tipping problem in Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River. The Greater Wellington Environment Committee was briefed today on the severity of fly tipping or illegal dumping in the river, which cost the regional council $113,826 in tip fees in the year to July. A further $3,541 was spent during the same period on a Waste Management bin, while specialist removal was required on several occasions to safely dispose of asbestos.

The Dead C are coming to town
- The Wellingtonista
- I wouldn't wanna put money on it or anything, but I'm pretty sure that the last time legendary NZ noise-rockers The Dead C (wikipedia) played in Wellington was when they supported Sonic Youth on their Dirty tour in 1993. And to be frank, with an utterly transcendant performance in the face of much tribulation, mopped the floor with them. Now they're playing at the City Gallery on Saturday night. It's free. What the hell else do you need to know?

My Brilliant Divorce Production Diary - Sound Design
- Downstage Theatre Blog
- Sound Designer, Gil Craig, recorded the voice overs on Wednesday morning and supplied a small set-up with the help of House Technician, Marc Edwards. This allowed us to test the recordings on a basic level in the rehearsals. From here Ginette and Geraldine discovered it didn't quite fit the picture they are trying to create. This is a technique often used by Sound Designers to test out their ideas and ensure they are on the same page as the Director.

Restoring our faith in humanity one step at a time
- The Wellingtonista
- This morning-ish, I was juggling headphones, iPod, scarf, hat, satchel and extra bag on the bus, as well as trying to text, and unbeknownst to me, I managed to drop my phone on the bus. When I got into work, I had a message on my answerphone from my mum, saying that she'd got a call from someone who had my cellphone, and that I should call my number to arrange a pick-up. Right

Willis Street: “flawed and dangerous”
- Wellington Scoop
- “Flawed and dangerous.” After two expensive council makeovers of Willis Street within the last three years, we’ve been given an official verdict on the failure of the re-design. The “flawed and dangerous” verdict on Willis Street is an authoritative one. It comes from deputy mayor Ian McKinnon, quoted in the print edition of the DomPost on Saturday morning after retailers had taken action against the barriers which were a last-ditch attempt by the council to stop pedestrians being hit by buses.

Website Tweaks and Fixes
- Wellington VHF Group
- G'day everyone, A quick note to point out a couple of changes to the website. Firstly, can advise that the Wellington VHF Group position paper on is now available for download. This was missing for a while, and was redirecting people back to the front page. We invite your comments on this document. Also it may have been noticed that the menu structure in the left hand frame of this website has shrunk. As we've been populating the site with more and more static content, it became necessary to activate the 'collapse' option on the menu items - they're still there, you just need to click on the appropriate category and the list of sub-options will appear. read more

Roxy Cinema
- Reborn as The Roxy in 2011, this iconic Miramar building started life as The Capitol Theatre - a one-screen picture house, purpose built in 1928 to screen silent films. In 1932 the cinema was converted to screen 'talkies', and continued to show films until 1964, when it closed its doors. It then became local shopping centre 'Capitol Court' until falling into disrepair and lying vacant for a number of years.

Owhiro Bay School
- Owhiro Bay School is located on the beautiful South Coast in Wellington. We offer quality teaching for Years 0-6 in a country setting 10 minutes drive from central Wellington. A roll of 100-125 children. Spacious grounds featuring a large grass field, hard courts, tennis court and two playgrounds provide a fun and stimulating environment for the children at Owhiro Bay School. The community is central to how we do things at Owhiro Bay School. In partnership with Owhiro Bay Kindergarten we have established the Owhiro Bay Learning Community supporting learners from birth onwards. We enjoy a high level of community involvement and this is demonstrated through events such as the Annual Owhiro Bay Community Hangi and the Annual Owhiro Bay Fair. We have a number of active groups within the learning community; the Owhiro Bay Student Council, the Whanau Support Group and Parentlink to name a few.
