Re-framing old timber from local college

- Ceres Demolition recently knocked down the Wellington Girls College auditorium and was faced with the prospect of trashing great quality timber. Instead of throwing it out, they turned to a local framing business, JW Framing, to salvage it – a move that diverted 8 tonnes of wood from the landfill!

99 percent of Ahi Kā event waste saved from landfill

- During the four-day Matariki Ahi Kā event in July, a whopping 687kgs of waste was generated from the kai court as people flocked to the city to celebrate, eat, and drink. But a recent waste audit report shows that 99 percent of the event waste was able to be diverted from the landfill – meaning only 8kgs of rubbish had to go to the tip!

Exhibition expert to impassioned park ranger

- Being kaitiaki to 250 hectares of regenerating native bush and 50 kilometres of first-rate mountain bike track is a world away from life on the road as an exhibition specialist. But five weeks ago Mark Kent left his role as Exhibition Touring and Project Manager after 21 years at Te Papa to become Mākara Peak’s first-ever dedicated Park Ranger – and he’s loving it. “This new position has been years in the planning, with the role created to support the community, especially the Mākara Peak Supporters who are particularly active in the park.”
