For Shortness
- Eye of the Fish
- Following on from the previous post, where the power of the mighty telephoto reduced tall buildings to flatness in a single bound, we here at the Fish thought that it might be time to try that trick on other streets. Flattening out perspective, as shown here in the classic (but I’ve always thought, slightly dodgy) example of Albrecht Durer from 1525 “Draughtsman drawing a recumbent w

- Jackson Garden-Bachop enters the field for his 100th match for Wellington on Saturday. +++++ A monumental effort by Hutt International Boys School (HIBS) to win the Wellington Condor Sevens title yesterday. First place for BRONZ
- Wellington SPCA
- It was a perfect summer’s day for the inaugural annual BRONZ charity bike ride which saw over 100 bikers gather in Lower Hutt at the start of a fantastic ride up and down the Kapiti coast. The Biker’s Rights of New Zealand Wellington branch have chosen us as their charity for the year and riders and supporters came out in their droves to show their support. The ride raised an impressive $1,720, most of which came from entry fees, but the event wasn’t just about money. By the end of the day our inspector’s van was bursting at the seams as we drove away with a truck-load of toys, blankets and food that were also collected at various points along the ride. All of these donations have come along just in time to bring a little Christmas cheer to the animals in our care. The ride was a fantastic event and we would like to thank BRONZ and everyone who took part, whether on bikes or as sideline supporters – your efforts will make a huge difference.

Wishing for a better world
- The Wellingtonista
- Wishbone have put up the prices of most of its food by $1, so now you will pay $7.50 for their cranberry, chicken and brie sandwich (luckily, next door to my local Wishbone is the Concorde Cafe where I can get a crusty baguette filled with salami and cheese, and a mystical half olive for a bargain $3.50). They say that it is the rising cost of petrol that has forced them into it. We say that maybe if they investigated ways to reduce the ridiculous amount of plastic that their food comes in, the cost of petrol wouldn't affect them quite as much.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
