    • Eastern Suburbs gained the upper hand over Naenae Old Boys on the first day’s play of the three-day Wilkinson Pearce Cup final at the Hawkins Basin Reserve on Friday. Winning the toss and bowling first, Easts dismissed Naenae for 187 in 60 overs and then cruised to 84 for 1 at stumps - a first innings deficit for Easts of 103 with nine first innings wickets in hand.

    • The conditions weren’t too bad for running, considering what was forecast, although there was a fresh southerly which kept things cool and slowed the outward progress a little, but aided on the homeward journey. There were 83 runners and walkers who turned up for the 15th race in Waterfront 5km Series, no doubt some being put off by the forecast and not being prepared for the better than expected conditions.

While it rained outside the Tararua Tramping Club served as the perfect space for the local bike community to come together and buy, sell and swap their old bike parts. Whether you were looking for a particular component or just keen to add to your ever-growing parts bin there was something for everyone. Carbon cranks jostled for space with moto-x handlebars and vintage derailleurs creating a overwhelming but somehow cohesive jumble of colours and textures.
