Beginning with an address from the Principal, Dominic Killalea, parents and caregivers will then have the opportunity to meet with their student’s rōpū teacher and to meet parents and caregivers of others in the class.   Year 9 Noho Marae – starting next week Beginning next week Year 9 rōpū will experience noho marae, a great way for students to solidify their social connections and begin to feel more a part of the school community. Students will also have fun and challenge themselves as they take part in a wide range of activities including an overnight camp in the Taraika marae, swim, kayak and visit Adrenaline Forest.   What’s happening? Farewell to Andrew Savage, Deputy Principal On Tuesday, we farewelled Andrew Savage who has been one of our Deputy Principals since 2012. Andrew leaves WHS to take up a post at the Teaching Council and their gain is most certainly WHS’s loss. Many staff took the opportunity to speak at Andrew’s farewell, recognising his many qualities and numerous contributions to WHS and enjoying musical contributions from Fritz Wollner and Andrew himself.     Safer Internet Day #SID2019 – 5 February 2019 This week marked international Safer Internet Day 2019 so we thought we would share some new resources from Netsafe. You might find some of their conversation starters for ‘Teens (14-18)’ and the resource links useful: Managing Time Online: How would you tell if you were spending too much time online? If you wanted to cut back, what are some ways you would try to do this? Catfishing: What do you know about catfishing? How do you tell if someone really is who they say they are online? Social Media vs Reality: How well do you think social media reflects people’s real lives? How do you tell when someone is getting paid to promote content on social media? Online Bullying? What does online bullying look like? What’s the difference between bullying & banter? What advice would you give to a friend who was being bullied? Summer sports and some winter sport pre-season practices start next week.     Sweet win for UHCF 11th grade team at Easter Tourney

    • Congratulations to the UHCF 11th Grade Storm on a FANTASTIC effort at the KCU Easter tournament. To go through the day unbeaten, score 11 goals and concede only 1 is a brilliant achievement for any team, but to beat Onslow the way they did in that final was outstanding. In the 5 to 6 years I’ve been coaching it was probably one of the gutsiest performances I have seen from a group of kids – they didn’t give an inch, but played hard and fair! Well deserved boys on taking the trophies away this year!!! Important to remember too, these are the twelve best 11th Grade teams in the Wellington District!

    • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 30/01/2014 - 10:00 - 11:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  9 6m alloy runabout with 1 person on board fishing near Te Rewa Rewa Point. He was unable to restart his vessel due to a loose fuel hose. Coastguard Mana were contacted directly and sent out a rescue vessel to tow him back in. Upon arriving at the scene the vessel was able to restart their engine and were escorted back to Mana. Coastguard Mana responded with CRV Trust Porirua Rescue to head out and tow them back to Mana Marina. They were stood down just as they were crossing the bar because another vessel in the area had responded and taken them under tow. The conditions at the time were rough with a 25-35kt southerly, but the vessel was tucked in near the coast. We responded in MR1 to tow him back to Mana Marina but didn't find anyone. He contacted us later to say that he had managed to recover himself by swimming the jetski back to the ramp between the bridges at Plimmerton.     • Operation Details Date/Time:  Fri, 25/03/2022 - 11:30 - 13:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  8 A yacht broke the bow line on the pole moorings during a southerly storm. It swung around and damaged the yacht behind it. The Harbour Master requested us to help secure the vessel and MR2 put it back on the pole with a new line.  It was later discovered that the vessel planks had been damaged and it was taking on water. Contact made with Police SAR doing area observations and a parallel track and directed trackline search assisted in locating a "fishng kayak" look-a-like log. The job shows the importance of  reports from the public and that usingt 111 to report when concerned for someone's safety is always a good thing to do. Coastguard Manawatu went out and towed him towards Kapiti Island, where Coastguard Kapiti took over the tow. Coastguard Mana then went out and took over the tow from from south of Kapiti Island and brought him into Mana Marina where he will be able to arrange repair. Took up position mid point port side of Endevour and the following Waka in line with Bluebride Rescue on the bow of the Endevour port side roughly 150 to 200 Metres off the Endevour.  Both Sprit of Wellington and Talleys Marine Rescue were on the Starboard side.  This created the exclusion zone which we maintained all the way to Picton. We were asked by the pole mooring manager to assist with getting it back on its mooring so that it didn't damage the yacht. MR1 was used to push it around and secure it back in place. Also assisted the Mana Marina manager to recover the turning bouys from outside the entrance that had broken away.
