    • Review: Lagerfield
      • Last year, for the second time in a row, Team Wellingtonista won the Webstock Pub Quiz (we intend to win it this year too, by the way). Our prize was a $300 tab for Lagerfield at 21 Blair Street. Having been there late at night when it was full of munters, I was not overwhelmed with enthusiasm, but as it turns out, it was a lovely experience.

    • Social Justice Focus of Retreat
      • Thursday 24 & Friday 25 June 2010: What is Social Justice? This was the focus question for Year 10 students as part of this year's Retreat. In a programme developed by Challenge 2000, students took part in a range of activities that challenged their perceptions of poverty and justice. Discussions involved such questions as "Does poverty exist in Lower Hutt?". A thought-provoking day for all.

    • Statues or Fun?
      • So, $350 000 for a statue that will be passe in a couple of years. One of those statues like the Queen Victoria ones that cities try to fob off on each other. Yet, those events that help to make Wellington a great place to live or visit like the Cuba Street Carnival and the Newtown Fair can't be held for lack of money. How absurd!

    • Matthew Bell - Captain's Blog, 2nd Edition
      • We started our season at home at the Basin Reserve against Canterbury. Our first game was a bit rough around the edges however as it went on we got better and better. We did have a reasonable start and at one stage we were 117/1 however late on day one we had a concentration laps which gave the momentum away and gave the advantage to Canterbury.

    • Look at these cushions!
      • Look at these gorgeous cushions we had presented to us today by Wendy Welsh an Establishment Board of Trustees Member. Wendy was out shopping one day and, knowing that we have a bit of a Hungry Caterpillar thing going on in the library, purchased these cushion kitsets. Her mother, Joy Hill, sewed them. A HUGE thanks to both of them for their beautiful contribution to the library.

      • The New Zealand Fringe Festival has been going for a week and it’s got just over two more weeks to run. Sadly, I’ve only made it to two shows so far (because moving house) a pathetic effort really, because there are HEAPS. Cabaret, circus, comedy, dance, music, theatre, visual art – there are a lot of […] The post The New Zealand Fringe Festival appeared first on The Wellingtonista.

    • Review: Miss Bronte
      • As we walk into the theatre a woman sits on stage frantically writing in a tiny book. She wears a plain blue dress made out of different patterned fabrics. Her hair is parted in the middle and tightly pulled back. Every so often she pauses, looks into the distance, then scribbles some more. The furniture […] The post Review: Miss Bronte appeared first on The Wellingtonista.

    • Corporate Camp
      • The weather was on our side  for a successful corporate training camp at the Top10 “resort” this weekend. Mixed corporate 8 race on the Whanganui All the rowers got four solid training sessions and some racing in. Not including a couple of impromptu swims, and a freak karaoke accident, everyone made it home in one piece. Thanks again to all the coaches who gave up their weekend.
