    • Akatarawa Attack
      • 80 mountainbikers attacked the Akatarawas on Saturday, armed only with a map. And 78 emerged more or less unscathed, close to the 4 or 8 hours each team had chosen for their battle with the rugged bush area between Upper Hutt and Kapiti. The final team of 2 pulled into the base at the end of Bulls Run Road three and a half hours late - battered but unbowed.

      • Enjoy gallery is hosting the penultimate event in their performance workshopping series tonight. Of course, dear reader, it would be outrageous to suggest that you have no other social engagements lined up for the Saturday of a long weekend, but if you can forgive me once again for the short notice, may I suggest that you nip up to the Enjoy gallery on Cuba St (upstairs near Scopa).

      • There were some very close games on Saturday with SMOG 11, 13 and 17 all winning with a couple of points or so. SMOG 17 also had a close game, neck and neck with McLaren’s Daughters until the very last quarter where they were just edged out. SMOG 1 and 2 played eachother for the first time this season with a fab amount of support from the sideline given the weather!

      • On Saturday Island Bays Premier squad had a show down with Tawa, who were going to come out onto Redwood Park fresh off a Hilton Cup Final win, and looking to avenge their 2008 season (we won and drew with them which hampered their push for 1st place). In blustery condition, neither team could dominate, with possession, and composure, swinging both ways constantly during both halves of play.

      • Hi Everyone, Rotorua Marathon on Saturday Best of luck for those who have been training all year. Carole, Kathy, Ann and others. The weather report is for ‘occasional showers’ – with the somewhat foreboding addition of ‘some heavy’. Hopefully it won’t be rained out again. But you can run around the lake in the knowledge that while you are basking in 16+ degrees, we in Wellington will be lucky to m

He plans to stand in lower Cuba Mall and charge passers by $20 to cut off a lock of hair. It all happens Saturday 20th June at midday outside Custom Printed Clothing. All the money raised will go to the Wellington Night Shelter.

We'd drawn 1-1 at Wakefield in the first game of the season and we were determined to do our best to better the result. We arrived for the 2:30 kickoff amidst a not so pleasant southerly storm, with BNU's own weatherman Rob Kerr predicting conditions to worsen. We started

Unfortunately, this Karori Park is Wellington's latest pitch, and what a waste of money it's proving to be. • Dinghy adrift as storm approaches
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 04/03/2014 - 13:30 - 17:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  21 Police were alerted to a 4m runabout adrift somewhere offshore to the west of Mana Island after breaking down. Communications were via a mobile phone and once Coastguard Mana were dispatched it was determined that they were in fact closer to Hunters Bank near Pukerua Bay. At the same time a severe southerly storm was approaching Wellington. CRV Trust Porirua Rescue with 5 crew members initially had difficulty locating them due to the inaccuracy of the location information given by the people on the boat. They were contacted via telephone and advised that we would release a white parachute flare to help them determine where we were in relation to them. This helped to refine the estimated position meaning that TPR could close in on the area the boat was drifting. Once closer they were advised by the Coastguard Master to activate an orange smoke flare. This was immediately spotted by the CRV crew approximately 3NM away and as they closed in on the smoke they spotted the vessel. The two men on board were getting cold but otherwise well. The fact that they had a means of communication and flares certainly saved them from a potentially disasterous situation as a southerly storm was moving up the country and expected to arrive within an hour or two. Coastguard Mana were tasked to go out and search for the source of the light to ensure that it was not a distress signal. • Car-o drive
      • As I said I would, I took a walk along the bypass on Saturday. I was too late to see the protests, but some of the protestors were still there chalking slogans on the pavements, and there a certain tension remained in the air. There's a lot of things I don't like about the bypass, but the thing that struck me the most about it on the weekend is that it just doesn't look like Wellington.

    • BNU v. Lower Hutt, 0-3
      • Without a doubt this was a clash eagerly anticipated by all the BNU players. Come 2:30pm Saturday we would be playing on what was tipped to be the pitch of the season and the surface was the topic of conversation early in the week leading up to the game. But like many fields in the capital, it couldn’t cope with the consistent rain and Karori number 1 was underwater.
