Positives drawn from latest Metlink Satisfaction Survey despite cancellations
- Metlink
- The results of Metlink’s annual independent customer satisfaction survey, which surveyed 2745 customers about their experiences on public transport in the region, will be presented at this Thursday’s meeting of Greater Wellington’s Transport Committee. The survey was conducted in June this year. A record high 96 percent of surveyed Metlink rail customers were satisfied with their journey, while 94 percent of surveyed customers across the whole Metlink bus, train and ferry network were satisfied with their trip, one percent more than last year. Metlink General Manager Samantha Gain said the satisfaction levels were pleasing overall, but acknowledged that since the survey was taken in June, bus service cancellations have increased from an average of 4.5% for the month due to bus driver shortages and absenteeism, to up to 10% on some days, making it difficult for customers on affected routes.

Integrated Home and Community Care services to remain in-house
- Capital & Coast District Health Board
- Over the last year Capital & Coast DHB has been taking a look at the way Integrated Home and Community Care (including Community Nursing and Allied Health) are delivered, and whether there was merit in involving external providers in their delivery. After much research and discussion, I recommended that we should keep these services in-house, and the Board has endorsed that decision at its June meeting.

The pressure to spend more money, and the worry of a bad reputation
- Wellington Scoop
- The Wellington City Council’s waterfront company is keeping the pressure on councilors to pay for two expensive and controversial projects which haven’t yet been approved. By June next year, says Wellington Waterfront Ltd in its Statement of Intent which was given to councilors on Friday, plans for the temporary ice skating rink and the temporary sideless tent “will be significantly advanced, if not completed.”

Social Justice Focus of Retreat
- St Patricks College, Silverstream
- Thursday 24 & Friday 25 June 2010: What is Social Justice? This was the focus question for Year 10 students as part of this year's Retreat. In a programme developed by Challenge 2000, students took part in a range of activities that challenged their perceptions of poverty and justice. Discussions involved such questions as "Does poverty exist in Lower Hutt?". A thought-provoking day for all.

Wellington's rates out of control
- Bryan Pepperell - Back To The Future
- Recently I asked for the compounding rate increase for residential property over the last five years from the city council´s CFO. My records from 1 July 2003 to 30 June to 2004 show my rates at $1275.69. They are now $2204.52. That’s close enough to 73 percent and I pay for my own rubbish. The figure I was given by the CFO was 45 percent.

PA Reviews: A Dispatch by Martin Patrick
- The Performance Arcade
- A review of selected works on offer in PA2024. Each year The Performance Arcade offers a kaleidoscopic spatial collage of performance-related events and event-based arts practices. Now in its 14th annual iteration, its site, coordinated by its founder-director Sam Trubridge along with a highly skilled and attentive team, has been both well travelled, and reconfigured many times, and the echoes of many past performances may be easily recalled if you have previously visited or participated. A kind of mirror image of characteristically large-scale public gallery exhibitions, most often centered around major retrospectives and material installations of many discrete works, the works on view in the Arcade bring a contingency, a fleeting “Did I just see that?” or “What was that meant to be?” lightness at the best of times.

Making Masterton Dreams Realty
- Urban Dream Brokerage
- <figure class=" sqs-block-image-figure intrinsic " > On Wednesday 28 June a spirited group of Masterton people came together for an open community meeting at Te Patukituki (the former Greenworld with its beautiful wooden open ceiling), 15 Queen Street to hatch connections and ideas for the pilot Urban Dream Brokerage in Masterton. It was time for many introductions, percolating ideas and wishes, plus an impromptu display from Heather Bannister of some beautiful vintage sewing machines - which she has schemes (with at least 100 she says in her collection!) to see not only on display, but in use by young and old. It was a pretty remarkable group of about 20 representing a diversity of the community: young and old, Maori and Pakeha, newcomers to the region hungry for initiatives and older timers with a lot of history to share. Even those who professed to not being creative expressed interests that suggested they had plenty to bring. Jade Waetford of Te Patukituki opened the hui. Te Patukituki is a fledgling community and carving space with some beautiful vision for enabling more young and Maori to feel part of the Masterton CBD, run here in this special space with the support of the Masterton Lands Trust. We’re really looking forward to working with them in partnership to see more community life in this special northern end of the CBD. Things are seeding in Masterton. Our call out to all in the community is to think about what causes they’d like to further, collections they know of in backrooms and garages that deserve wider exposure, or ideas for the CBD they could trial (be it an event in open space or project in a vacant space). What ideas could be brought to life that demonstrate some different aspects of this town? If you’ve got something even starting to percolate drop Anneke Wolterbeek the Urban Dream Broker a line at udbmasterton@gmail.com to talk more on how a dream could be ‘realty’. Take two: spotlight goes on solving problems through drama
- Dramatic enactment of significant life situations can help people work through issues as diverse as drug taking, cancer recovery, sexual abuse, adoption, or death of a loved one—and the casting call is out for Wellingtonians. A special weekend workshop using psychodrama is to be held 4-6 May in Alpha Street’s The Training Space. “Putting yourself centre stage in a safe and understanding space helps people to strengthen their sense of self, their relationships and their effectiveness within a group,” says workshop leader, John Faisandier.
