    • Willowbank Quarry - Judgeford
      • As you may be aware a rock quarry was set up to help with building the Transmission Gully motorway from an entry and exit off SH58 near the Judgeford Kennels. Porirua City Council granted consent for this specific purpose for a finite timeframe (to the end of December 2020 at the latest). Critically, it was agreed that the environmental impacts would be remediated upon completion of the rock extraction.

En route, she is haunted by a bizarre apparition that compels her toward an abandoned lakeside pavilion. Made by industrial filmmakers on a small budget, the eerily effective B-movie classic Carnival of Souls was intended to have “the look of a Bergman and the feel of a Cocteau”—and, with its strikingly used locations and spooky organ score, it succeeds. Herk Harvey’s macabre masterpiece gained a cult following on late-night television and continues to inspire filmmakers today --- See you there

    • Ngāti Toa School students keen explorers
      • ‍When Ngāti Toa School teacher Pearl Freemantle told her students there were seahorses living in the sea near Porirua, they didn’t believe her. “They thought I was doing one of my 'jokes' when I told them seahorses are in our local moana,” says Pearl. “One of the year 6 girls, who I had told when she was a year 2 that we had seahorses locally - and who thought they were a mystical being like a unicorn - was leaping with excitement after snorkelling, as she had seen one!”

    • Killing Kāinga Ora
      • The Luxon-led government continues its attack on anything that the Labour Party ever managed to do, with the release of news about the Kāinga Ora housing projects. Most of them, it seems, have been killed off. “Brakes put on more than 370 Kāinga Ora housing developments nationally”. In Wellington the following projects are stopped: Arlington redevelopment and Evans Bay Parade, with other projects stopped in the Hutt, Naenae, Wainuiomata, and Porirua. The list says “paused.” But I know a dead duck when I see one.

    • Mana College v. Wellington College
      • f you're stuck for something to do next Monday night, you could do worse than to head to Porirua Park for the final of Wellington's premier one grade schoolboy rugby competition. The match is to be played between Mana College and Wellington College. As detailed in a story in the Dom Post, Mana has made a dramatic rise through the grades after starting the year in premier two and being promoted mid-season, and to have made it to the final is nigh-on miraculous.

    • Women's Firsts v Tawa (top-o-the-table-clash)
      • Aaaaa…Tawa. The steady sound of motor mowers and small children. The snobby reluctance to be associated in any way shape or form with their close neighbours Porirua. The constant purr of dehumidifiers working tirelessly in an effort to stop mould from coating every household surface. Isn’t it great just not to live there? What would be even greater would be if we were to beat them on Sunday and rob them of possibly the only thing they have to proud of – top spot in the division that contains our team.
