Wagamama joins Mojo at Kumutoto
- Eye of the Fish
- In what appears to be one of Wellington’s more anticipated restaurant openings for years, a branch of the international noodle bar Wagamama has opened in the Meridian building, and already queues are forming out the door: indeed, breaking all Australasian records for turnover in a first week, despite it being the middle of a very bleak winter. It evidently has been a phenomenal success.

Let them eat antipasto platters!
- The Wellingtonista
- Sometimes a fly likes to take time out from frequenting the fine bars of this city to spend some time in the fine cinemas of this city. But when one buzzes into a cinema foyer, one does not expect to find that one has walked into a staff meeting, especially when one is in the posh section of the cinema - the part that charges $31.50 a ticket.

Cinephilia: Opening This Week
- The Wellingtonista
- Following the flurry of Christmas and New Year releases (all of which are still playing), there are only two new titles to report this week. Firstly, The Tale of Desperaux an animated adaptation of a supposedly beloved children's book. Matthew Broderick plays a noble little mouse with enormous ears who teams up with a kitchen-loving rat (Dustin Hoffman) to rescue a lonely Princess (Emma Watson) -

I love trees but not sure about this project...any views?
- Iona Pannett
- Thanks to Karen Fifield for pointing out this project to me of growing a forest within an apartment building in Milan. Brilliant to green our buildings but wondering how it would be to live in such a place and whether the dominance of the trees takes something away from the building. But a good effort, integrating the built and natural environment well remains a challenge.

We now have a Council that has passed the Spatial Plan, in a decision that some have described being a battle over young vs old. Up to 80,000 more people will be able to live in our city, in a gradual process over the next 30+ years.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
