      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 04/02/2012 - 18:00 - 23:00 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  3 Total Volunteer Hours:  15 Coastguard Mana was tasked by Police to recover a broken down vessel with three people on board from Ohau Point, south of Makara Beach. When CRV Trust Porirua Rescue arrived on scene it was discovered that two of the people had already been returned by another vessel to Makara Beach. The remaining person was towed back to Mana. The vessel was a 17ft runabout that had experienced mechanical failure.       • Wellington Spirit have landed in Perth in preparation for the Warren Jones Match Racing regatta, with racng taking place from Tuesday 31 January through to Friday 3 February. The Warren Jones is the first regatta of the 2012 season for the team with the aim being to break into the World Match Racing Tour by year end.

      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 22/01/2012 - 16:30 - 17:10 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  1 A float plane was having difficulty taxiing to the jetty in high winds inside Porirua Harbour. The pilot contacted the Fire Service to request standby assistance and they contacted Coastguard Mana for on-water assistance in case there were any difficulties with getting to the jetty safely. Incident Management Team members from Coastguard Mana and the local fire crew attended from the shore. The plane safely taxied to the intended jetty and no further assistance was required. Located vessel with 2 people on board with PFD's and hand held radio (no flares, no torch, no GPS) drifting almost 4NM north of their reported location. Initially flat battery - jump started & headed to Paremata boat ramp - motor died opposite Hongeka Bay - run out of fuel - boat taken under tow @ 2025.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 15/01/2012 - 08:00 - 13:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  82 The search for the missing swimmer at Titahi Bay resumed at 0800 on Sunday morning. A large search was performed by Coastguard Mana's vessels Trust Porirua Rescue and CRV Pelorus. Shoreline searches were performed around the whole of Mana Island and all the way down the West coast as far as Makara Beach, while Titahi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club covered the shoreline and immediate area around Titahi Bay. Sea conditions were very rough with 1-2m waves and up to 30 knots of NW wind (slightly less than the previous day).       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 14/01/2012 - 16:00 - 20:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  40 Coastguard Mana was tasked to search for a missing swimmer at Titahi Bay after a group of swimmers were caught in a rip. Emergency services responded to reports of a group of four swimmers in trouble at about 4pm. Most of the group were rescued but one was still unaccounted for. CRV Trust Porirua Rescue has been searching in conjunction with Westpac Rescue and Titahi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club since 1700, while CRV Pelorus had to turn back due to severe sea conditions. TPR returned to base at 2030 and will resume the search early on Sunday morning.       • Halvard Mabire and Miranda Merron crossed the double-handed Global Ocean Race Leg 2 finish line in third place with Class40 Campagne de France after 33 days 10 hours 40 minutes and 15 seconds of racing through the Indian Ocean from Cape Town. Then Marco Nannini and Hugo Ramon crossed the Leg 2 finish line with their Class40 Financial Crisis taking fourth place after 33 days 20 hours 13 minutes and 45 seconds and 7,000 miles of racing from Cape Town, South Africa.

      • New Zealand father-and-son duo, Ross and Campbell Field sailing Buckley Systems (BSL), have completed the second leg of the Global Ocean Race but not before enduring two days of extreme weather in the Cook Strait. On Saturday night Ross reported “we’re getting the **** kicked out of us. Just before the wind instruments got blown off the rig, it was 38 knots and then it got windier.” Then the pair entered the Cook Strait proper and the wind built fruther to an estimated 60 knots.

      • Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club member Conrad Colman with his crew of Sam Goodchild have won leg two of the Global Ocean Race. Conrad and Sam crossed the GOR’s Leg 2 finish line off Worser Bay after 30 days 22 hours 20 minutes and 40 seconds, netting the maximum of 30 points for Leg 2.

Vessel located and towed to mooring behind Mana Island. Moored off and mechanic taken on board the following morning of 29/12. Engine successfully started. No further support required. Actual time (5 hrs) was split across two days, but is reported as a single block here.       • The 40 knot southerly with 'very high sea' that delayed this year's CSC from Saturday to Sunday caused havoc with more than a few teams. We had planned to race with our usual inshore crew with pretty much everyone available. Available for Saturday, that was. So we had a slightly unusual mix.

      • Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown went sailing on a new Kiwi40FC from BT Boats this week in preparaion for the arrival of the Global Ocean Race Fleet. Wellington City Council is hosting the Global Ocean Race stopover in partnership with Royal Port Nicholson Yaht Club with the fleet expected to arrive around the end of December.

    • Wedgetail breaks the record and Clear Vision wins on offshore handicap in the Cook Strait Classic

      • Congratulations to Meric and his crew on Wedgetail who took line honours and the race record for the Cook Strait Classic 2011. Eight boats started the race on Sunday morning, after it was delayed by gale force winds on Saturday. Wedgetail crossing the finish line 3hrs 23 mins 23 sec after starting, beating Cotton Blossom II's 1984 record by 7 minutes. Meanhwile Clear Vision took out the race on Club Offshore handicap with Gucci taking the double on PHRF and IRC. Well done!

      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 01/12/2011 - 18:00 - 19:00 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  5 Assisting the Harbour Master and the owners of two yachts that had swung onto each other and become entangled on their swing moorings by the bridges at Mana. The dinghy davits on one vessel had caught on the stays of another and they were pushing against each other in the strong current.
