- Waikanae Golf Club
- Some of you will have been curious to know what this term means. It refers to a small group of mothers whose children attend kindergarten and who have taken the few hours available to them on a Monday morning to learn the game of golf. It was made possible by a grant from NZ Golf which covered their tuition fees for a number of lessons from Kevin Smith. Now that their tuition period is over, the

- Many of you will have heard that Andy Rutter, former Assistant Course Superintendent at Waikanae, has been appointed Course Superintendent to replace the recently departed Darren Shaw. Andy has been a great worker over several years and has learnt his trade at our course. - The following table outlines our current membership figures as at 21 April and compares them to the same period last year. The expected decline in those taking out full membership (about 50) has occurred but this has been offset in some part by increase in subscriptions. Indoor community sports centre may force flyover
- While I certainly don't want to give up on fighting to stop the flyover being built at the Basin Reserve, a friend recently pointed out that there is another issue that I had not yet considered. And, it is one that could quite likely lead to construction of both the flyover and duplication of the Mt Victoria Tunnel.

BNU Div 16 26/04/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- A classic local derby full of controversy, goalkeeping howlers, total commitment, raucous home support and a fortunate 4-3 victory for the Pints. The absurd length of the Pints subs bench meant there was a continuous rolling sub situation and what seemed often to be a minimum of 13 players on the pitch for them at any one time.

How to make a sea urchin toy
- Wellington SPCA
- Dogs love playing with this toy made out of scraps of material. They can play tug of war with another dog or can throw this around and try to catch it. Cats like to attack the strips of material and you can spray cat nip on it to make it more enticing to cats. To make this toy, cut the binding off the edges off old towels or sheets and the seams off old clothes. Cut close to the seam or binding

Man of sorrows
- Te Papa's blog
- Te Papa has a strong collection of Colin McCahon’s early religious works, including three paintings from 1947 that depict events from story of the Passion: Christ taken from the cross, Entombment (after Titian), and King of the Jews. One of the enduring myths surrounding McCahon’s early paintings is that were rejected by critics. This is summed [...]

BNU Thirds v Petone 4/4/09
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- Petone 0 – 2 BNU Thirds First game of the season saw us playing at the “home of football”, no not Wembley, it turns out that the home of football is actually Memorial Park, Petone. Although new opposition for us, Petone having been relegated down from Capital 3, their goalkeeper seemed strangely familiar. It struck me towards the end of the game (I obviously had too much time on my hands with us

Interesting discussion over at Eye Of The Fish
- Save the Basin Reserve!
- Wellington architecture blog Eye Of The Fish has an interesting discussion on the Memorial Parkway, the strip of land in front of the War Memorial in Buckle Street that was intended by the last government as an extension of the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. Given the proximity of this area to the Basin Reserve, there's been some conjecture that the two projects would end up being linked by the transport planners. It's worth taking a look at both the original article and the comments that follow.

Masters 1 v Seatoun 4/4/09
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- The dawn of a season beckoned on the Masters team with a discovery that we had been promoted to the A division. With despair amongst the team, a letter of protest was sent off to Capital Football asking why the team that finished second was promoted and the team that finished first for the last two seasons was remaining in Division B. As with Capital Football, the letter was not even acknowledged.
