Premier v Karori - 30/05/09 - L 3-1
- Island Bay United AFC
- Our Saturday trip away to Karori proved just why Wellington needs Artificial Grounds and fast. Unfortunately, this Karori Park is Wellington's latest pitch, and what a waste of money it's proving to be. I'm sure it's great during Summer, when Mums and Dads can happily stroll their Prams across the park to the cafe and playground, but it's not much chop when you need a snorkel to kick off and it's

Restoring our faith in humanity one step at a time
- The Wellingtonista
- This morning-ish, I was juggling headphones, iPod, scarf, hat, satchel and extra bag on the bus, as well as trying to text, and unbeknownst to me, I managed to drop my phone on the bus. When I got into work, I had a message on my answerphone from my mum, saying that she'd got a call from someone who had my cellphone, and that I should call my number to arrange a pick-up. Right

From Andrew’s desk

As John Hughes writes “Prayer is that part of the Christian journey that can be both wonderfully awesome and amazingly frustrating’ But today we invite you to unite with Christians all around the world as we join together to intercede for our world. As you do so you may like to reflect on this prayer offered

Box up your Books for the Book Fair
- Downtown Community Ministry
- Downtown Community Ministry needs your books for Wellington’s big annual Book Fair. The Book Fair is held in September at the TSB Arena has a staggering number of books, DVDs, Vinyl records and CDs that are donated each year and then sold to people to reuse and enjoy. Coordinator David Cross says, “It’s a fantastic way of redistributing unused items to people who want them and it raises incredible funding for DCM’s work in the city”. But first Downtown Community Ministry needs to collect the thousands of books and other items needed for the fair. Wheelibins will be placed at churches and community centres throughout the city for people to drop off their books. For a list of these locations please see www.dcm.org.nz

Storm in our coffee cups

- Now, I'm not sure if you've noticed or not, but the weather lately has been somewhat less than pleasant. Unless you happen to be a wavewatcher or rather crazy surfer, that is, in which case there have been some rather spectacular things to see. If you're the kind who'd rather stay inside nice and warm, here's a fantastic video that Dave Frampton has made to show you what you're missing Storm i

BNU Reserves vs North Wellington 23/5/09

- BNU reserves travelled to Alex Moore Park in Johnsonville on Saturday for the season's return fixture against North Wellington. We'd drawn 1-1 at Wakefield in the first game of the season and we were determined to do our best to better the result. We arrived for the 2:30 kickoff amidst a not so pleasant southerly storm, with BNU's own weatherman Rob Kerr predicting conditions to worsen. We started

I watched a boat slip it's moorings, and mash itself against the rocks, while the owners tried futilely to hoist it out of the water, only to have to give up and let it sink.Still, we all got to play football, and wasn't it great to play in, or watch the game you were involved with?! BNU Div 16 09/05/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- Olympic 2 - 4 BNU16 BNU took their recent upturn in form into a much tougher game against Olympic at Miramar, coming out victorious by 4-2, in an excellent performance. The win was especially sweet as the team had to battle against a string of poor refereeing decisions and a series of callous challenges on players in promising attacking situations. To their credit BNU by and large (maybe with the e

BNU Womens 2nd Team 08/05/2009

- Why, oh why did BNU lose to Naenae…? (Naenae 4 – BNU 0) It had to happen one day… and BNU ladies’ second team came crashing down to earth this week with a 4-0 drubbing from Naenae – urgh. Things were against us from the beginning when we had to don our white away kit to prevent confusion. Apparently we decided to do this to stop us accidentally passing the ball to the wrong team. - BNU Thirds 2-1 Wainui - Back into the fray at Titahi BayGiven the prolonged absence of our regular keeper, the gaffer organised for a replacement for this weeks game against Wainui’s 2nd team. Premier v Naenae - 09/05/09 - W 2-0
- Island Bay United AFC
- A hearty welcome back to Naenae, whom we hadn't played against in top flight football for a number of years. This of course creates the issue of not knowing how they play, who was dangerous, and how we could bet them. Coaches problems really. The weather had been horrible all week, but on Saturday Wakefield Park was bathed in sunshine, and still (Yes, you read it - Still!!)Our guys turned up to pla

From Mike’s Desk …
- Karori Baptist Church
- Every once in a while, I read something I’ve written previously, and think, “That was actually quite profound!” It happened this week - when I read what I had written in the first KBC newsletter of the year, in my first week back at work after being on holiday. Here’s some of what I wrote then: I’ve decided that I’m not very fond of this time of the year!

BNU Womens 2nd Team 03/05/2009
- Brooklyn Northern United AFC
- BNU ‘coast’ through with a 3-1 win over Kapiti (Kapiti 1 – BNU 3) The Brooklyn ladies’ second team started off the week very well with two highly placed teams in the pub quiz. It is worthy of mention that neither of the teams exceeded the maximum number of competitors – unlike The Brazilians (aka The Thirds) who appeared to think that 8 players is the same as 5… hmmm ;-) But, we’re not bitter, an
