    • Women's Firsts v Tawa (top-o-the-table-clash)
      • Aaaaa…Tawa. The steady sound of motor mowers and small children. The snobby reluctance to be associated in any way shape or form with their close neighbours Porirua. The constant purr of dehumidifiers working tirelessly in an effort to stop mould from coating every household surface. Isn’t it great just not to live there? What would be even greater would be if we were to beat them on Sunday and rob them of possibly the only thing they have to proud of – top spot in the division that contains our team.

    • Ten Mad Minutes and the Slapperz go Down
      • An injury-plagued Slapperz journeyed to Petone Memorial 4 to take on the Armani's. With Steve-O and Barts on the sideline nursing aches and pains, we were all hoping for an injury free match. No luck there, I'm afraid, with Gazz limping off after just 1 minute with a nasty looking recurrence of his injury. Fortunately, Striker Barts gallantly came to the rescue and played the remaining 89 minutes up front.

    • Lunchtime Readings
      • Every second Tuesday lunchtime, Christina Barton, Director of the Adam Art Gallery and co-curator of In Relation: Performance Works by Peter Roche & Linda Buis 1979–1985, will select a performance in the exhibition and read the relevant original notes drafted by the artists or compiled by their most assiduous audience member, the critic and curator Wystan Curnow. Her idea is to bring a live dimension into the gallery as a way of animating the documentation on display and sharing first-hand insights in their unedited form. Each reading will be between 10 and 20 minutes with time for questions after.

    • Waterfront tweaks: Taranaki St Wharf
      • As much as we Wellingtonians are happy to live in a "cold-yet-cultural" city, most of us would have to admit that this "summer" has been pretty gruelling. Which is why yesterday, with it's balmy temperatures and spectacular sunset, seemed to switch so many of us into outdoors mode for one delicious evening. Most of Waitangi Park was humming by about 5:30, but even though the lawn was relatively dry and looking sweetly bucolic with its lush grass and clover, it had attracted a grand total of eleven people, mostly on the berms around the edge.

    • The Dead C are coming to town
      • I wouldn't wanna put money on it or anything, but I'm pretty sure that the last time legendary NZ noise-rockers The Dead C (wikipedia) played in Wellington was when they supported Sonic Youth on their Dirty tour in 1993. And to be frank, with an utterly transcendant performance in the face of much tribulation, mopped the floor with them. Now they're playing at the City Gallery on Saturday night. It's free. What the hell else do you need to know?

    • Laying a campaign trail
      • I am afraid that I have become caught up in my electioneering – such that I have now committed myself to walking every street in the Southern Ward, dropping a calling card in every letter box, and talking in an open and friendly way to those fellow citizens who are out and about. Since I am largely a house husband at present and the boys are at school, my week-day mornings are pretty much free. So the map is a report back on progress so far.

    • Wgtn Car Ban Talk
      • Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast today called for private cars to be banned from the Golden Mile within 10 to 20 years, following planned developments such as opening Manners Mall to buses, overhauling roads near the Basin Reserve and building a second Mt Victoria Tunnel And the Greens say they support the proposal to make the Golden Mile car free with only public transport, but said Wellington should give priority to light rail and pedestrian space in the Golden Mile now, not in 10 to 20 years.

    • New group campaigning for council’s Spatial Plan
      • A new campaign has launched to support the Wellington City Council’s proposed Spatial Plan, which aims to set a blueprint for more affordable housing as the city grows. A City for People is a non-partisan group of Wellingtonians who share a progressive and sustainable vision for Wellington. We see the Spatial Plan as an important opportunity to put people first and make a plan to share our city as it grows. “We’re asking Wellington City Councillors to support the Spatial Plan so all generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and we have a chance to live in an affordable, warm, dry home,” said City for People spokesperson Isla Stewart.

    • Passchendaele: The Belgians Have Not Forgotten
      • Passchendaele: The Belgians Have Not Forgotten Venue: ANZAC Hall Featherston Date: 17 July – 16 August Hours: 10am – 4pm daily This exhibition focuses on how the memories of New Zealand still live on in Flanders today, 90 years after the devastating conflict that cost so many young kiwi lives. These memories are brought to life through images, movies and artefacts. New Zealand lost more men during the 100 days of fighting than any other commonwealth country - 845 on one day alone during the First Battle of Passchendaele, 12 October, 1917. The people of Flanders and, more widely, the people of Belgium have never forgotten this sacrifice, which is commemorated in this very special exhibition.
