And you thought we were joking about the Octopus threat?
- The Wellingtonista
- Earlier this month we read about an octopus off the South Coast that mugged an innocent diver and took his valuable new camera. The news flashed around the world and everyone had a bit of a chuckle at the diver's expense. Not so fast, laughing boys (and girls). It turns out that this is but the latest episode in a long history of criminal behaviour by the city's cephalopod citizenry.

- Following the councils decision to ignore everyones advice except from those that agreed with them they have lost no time in commencing the change process in Manners Mall. New pedestrian calming measures have been introduced into the centre of the mall which also perform more than adequately as holding pens for paving contractors looking to gather up pavers from beneath the pedestrians feet and redistribute them to a place more deserving.

Protecting heritage values on Mt Victoria

This does not mean that we advocate the return of the outside privy or petition against the renovation of your kitchen or other rooms. But it does mean we try to prevent the look of Mount Victoria being spoiled by a mishmash of new buildings.

We’re waiting to hear how they’ll save $180m
- Wellington Scoop
- Wellington City Councillors spent most of last week trying to make decisions about spending. More accurately: decisions about cutting spending. For the rest of us, the issue is what they’ll decide about the rates. They’ve consistently shown enthusiasm for increasing the rates every year. As a result, as the DomPost reports this morning, Wellington’s rates increased by 86 per cent in the first decade of the new century.

Upper Hutt Football
- Upper Hutt City Football, as the club is now known, was formed following the amalgamation of three separate football clubs. Club football originated in Upper Hutt with the formation of Upper Hutt United in the 1920s and Tararua United formed as an alternative Club in the 1970s. Upper Valley Wanderers formed in the 1980s as an independent Club for Women’s Football. In the late 1990s the three Clubs amalgamated, with new Clubrooms built at Harcourt Park, as the Tararua Sports Club. A meeting convened in 1998 agreed that all football teams would play as Upper Hutt City Soccer in acknowledgement of the club’s links with and support from the local Upper Hutt City community.

- Northern United Rugby Football Club Inc was established in 1990 as a result of the amalgamation of the Porirua and Titahi Bay Rugby Football Clubs after their 1989 season. Northern United RFC is known as ‘Norths’ within the Wellington Rugby Football Union. The initial playing strip was the Porirua Rugby Club jersey with the Titahi Bay Rugby Club shorts and socks but in 1990 the official blue and white playing strip was introduced, which remains prominent 30 years on.
