    • Show Quest 2022
      • Abby Holdaway, a year 13 student at Onslow, wrote the following piece about ShowQuest 2022: “This year Onslow College participated in the 2022 National Showquest Competition. Schools across the country put together performances to be filmed and judged under numerous categories. Our creative dance students here at Onslow put together a beautiful performance under the theme of Aroha and the Māori story of Rangi and Papa.

    • Chews clues
      • When I last wrote about the Chews Lane precinct, the only online image of the building planned for 45-55 Willis St showed what appeared to be an all-glass façade. The developers now have a detailed page for this building, including renderings and some PDF brochures with higher-res images, and it's clear that the building will have a mixture of glass and brick panels

    • Hot theatre
      • BATS Theatre's new play Heat starts this Friday, and has been selling itself on an unusual point: "eco-theatre". The show's lights and sound will be completely off-grid, and the preparations for the sustainable energy sources were visible over the weekend. Such a ploy could come across as gimmicky, but it's designed to mimic the constraints of its setting, an Antarctic survival capsule.

    • Cinephilia: Opening This Week
      • When times are quiet in the cinema business (as they have been all year) owners respond by opening more and more films and hoping something will stick. This week sees the Penthouse open yet another contemporary British comedy-drama, funded by the UK Film Council using National Lottery funds (much like Happy-Go-Lucky and Brick Lane which are still screening), Grow Your Own.

    • Hussey Dropped
      • Zephyr Rovers Acting Manager George Nash sensationally dropped Eddie Hussey (pictured) as finals penalty taker today and installed himself in the event that the final was tied. "I thought Eddie's penalty in the knock out rounds last season was a shocker" said Nash "and I think a calm, cool and collected player like myself should be easily able to toe poke one in from hat range".

    • It ain't easy being Green (Cabs)
      • Our favourite cab company has expanded to Auckland and Christchurch and are doing pretty well in both. But it's not all expansion and increasing profits. Recently the eco-friendly cab company has had to defend itself against statements from the head of the Taxi Federation. Then they had to fend off claims from other taxi companies (Combined in this case) that they were also "green".

      • An enthusiastic group of Wellington squashies had to cope with temperatures over 30 degrees in Wanganui last weekend.
