    • Cinephilia: Opening This Week
      • As Oscar night approaches another of the expected heavyweight contenders goes into cinemas: Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road reunites Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio for the first time since Titanic (still the highest grossing film of all time fact-fans) in a story of a middle-class 1950s couple dissatisfied with the American suburban dream. Based on (what I understand to be) an awesome novel by

    • Faye Blais & April Maze
      • 24/04/09 | Hole In The Wall Words and photos by Crispin Anderlini A frosty ANZAC Eve Friday brought me in from the cold to enjoy the rich, powerful, varied sounds and thoughtful, catchy, ultimately satisfying, lyrics of Australia’s April Maze (Sivan Agam and Todd Mayhew) and Canadian singer-songwriter Faye Blais. April Maze took the stage first with Sivan Agam providing a smooth, heartwarm

    • Year 12 Reconciliation
      • Friday 18 September 2009: Facilitated by Fr Mark Walls SM, Year 12 students looked to develop the means whereby they could stand up for what is right. As a result of this the students are able to distinguish what is acceptable, and what is unacceptable behaviour, in the Marist Tradition. We look forward to this cohort making a significant contribution to the college as Year 13 Leaders.

    • Something to mull over
      • Having observed a steaming hot urn of it at the Southern Cross on Saturday night, surrounded by blankets and hot water bottles, we want to know: where can one get the best mulled wine in Wellington, how much will we have to pay for it, and approximately what alcoholic percentage will it be?  Do our work for us in the comments section. Thanks!

The Trust's Chairman, Neil Plimmer, says it is the right art work on the right site. “The initial public response has been fabulous. The work will transform and strengthen the appeal of this northern part of the waterfront.

    • Review: Lagerfield
      • Last year, for the second time in a row, Team Wellingtonista won the Webstock Pub Quiz (we intend to win it this year too, by the way). Our prize was a $300 tab for Lagerfield at 21 Blair Street. Having been there late at night when it was full of munters, I was not overwhelmed with enthusiasm, but as it turns out, it was a lovely experience.

    • For sale: a home of the little blue penguins
      • Consistency must count for something in Mayor Kerry Prendergast’s strategy, but it was conspicuous by its absence in a 24-hour period this week. On Tuesday, she honoured Forest & Bird and their project to save little blue penguins. One day later came her action to remove from city ownership and protection a piece of land that is a home for some of those same little penguins.

    • Social Justice Focus of Retreat
      • Thursday 24 & Friday 25 June 2010: What is Social Justice? This was the focus question for Year 10 students as part of this year's Retreat. In a programme developed by Challenge 2000, students took part in a range of activities that challenged their perceptions of poverty and justice. Discussions involved such questions as "Does poverty exist in Lower Hutt?". A thought-provoking day for all.

    • Wellington's rates out of control
      • Recently I asked for the compounding rate increase for residential property over the last five years from the city council´s CFO. My records from 1 July 2003 to 30 June to 2004 show my rates at $1275.69. They are now $2204.52. That’s close enough to 73 percent and I pay for my own rubbish. The figure I was given by the CFO was 45 percent.

    • Jimmy hits Glasgow!
      • James Marsh won the Rangers Scholarship earlier this year and is currently in Glasgow. Here's a blog from his bag carrier dad - Brendan. Monday it was pithing down but by chance the timetable was for a tour of Ibrox. The "older" academy groups had day off and so we had 4 hours poking around at the stadium which finished with lunch at the executive restaurant.

    • Look at these cushions!
      • Look at these gorgeous cushions we had presented to us today by Wendy Welsh an Establishment Board of Trustees Member. Wendy was out shopping one day and, knowing that we have a bit of a Hungry Caterpillar thing going on in the library, purchased these cushion kitsets. Her mother, Joy Hill, sewed them. A HUGE thanks to both of them for their beautiful contribution to the library.
