    • Blessing of the Boats
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 16/02/2014 - 09:00 - 16:00 Operation Type:  Other People Assisted:  0 Total Volunteer Hours:  63 Coastguard Mana were invited to attend the Blessing of the Boats, which is part of the Island Bay Festival.  The “Blessing of the Boats” attracts crowds to the coastline to watch our decorated fishing boats put through their paces and blessed for safe carriage, and bountiful catches.  Unique to Island Bay, local and visiting Clergy venture out into the Bay to bless the fishing boats after they've circled around Tapu te Ranga Island.  So many boats and so much activity really makes this something special to see. There were approximately 30 boats there including both of our vessels, both of Coastguard Wellington's vessels and the Police boat Lady Elizabeth IV.     • Mana Ocean Challenge
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sat, 08/02/2014 - 09:30 - 18:00 Operation Type:  Other People Assisted:  48 Total Volunteer Hours:  85 Coastguard Mana provided both their rescue vessels in support of the Mana Super 6 Ocean Challenge that saw eight 6-man waka ama vessels (48 competitors in total) paddle 38km from Mana, around Mana Island and then to Kapiti Boating Club in Paraparaumu.     • Runabout with fuel problems
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 30/01/2014 - 10:00 - 11:30 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  9 6m alloy runabout with 1 person on board fishing near Te Rewa Rewa Point. He was unable to restart his vessel due to a loose fuel hose. Coastguard Mana were contacted directly and sent out a rescue vessel to tow him back in. Upon arriving at the scene the vessel was able to restart their engine and were escorted back to Mana. Located 500m offshore and 500m south of Green Point. Towed back to Mana Marina, all safe and sound.Cellphone for comms, wearing lifejackets.     • Broken down runabout in Porirua Harbour
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 30/01/2014 - 09:30 - 10:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  6 A 6m alloy runabout broke down in the channel in Porirua Harbour. It drifted across to the side of the motorway near the Paremata roundabout and onto the sand bank just before the stone wall. Police were contacted and called out Coastguard Mana to assist him.
