Removal of bird scarer on moored vessel

- Operation Details Date/Time: Wed, 19/06/2019 - 20:00 - 22:00 Operation Type: Other People Assisted: 2 Total Volunteer Hours: 10 Received a call from the Wellington Harbour Master asking if we could assist them to remove/disable a bird scarer on a moored boat in Onepoto Harbour. The electronic scarer was making a lot of noise on a still night and the local residents asked noise control to get it turned off. We took the Harbour Master and a Noise Control officer out to the vessel to disable it, with the owner's permission. No birds were harmed in the operation, but several were found roosting on the vessel while the device was active :) Vessel Details Length: 8.00m Resources Attendees: Devine dfranks Katestewart Mark Presling zanebublitz CRV's Used: Mana Rescue 1

Kayak reported adrift at Pukerua Bay

- Operation Details Date/Time: Fri, 14/06/2019 - 08:10 - 11:00 Operation Type: SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted: 0 Total Volunteer Hours: 2 Mana Rescue 1 with 3 x crew responded to a report from police of a red kayak drifting in Pukerua Bay, no sighting of any persons on board. Contact made with Police SAR doing area observations and a parallel track and directed trackline search assisted in locating a "fishng kayak" look-a-like log. The job shows the importance of reports from the public and that usingt 111 to report when concerned for someone's safety is always a good thing to do. Yacht aground on breakwater sandbank

- Operation Details Date/Time: Tue, 04/06/2019 - 07:00 - 09:00 Operation Type: CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted: 2 Total Volunteer Hours: 12 A yacht had come from Nelson overnight, hit a storm in Cook Strait and decided to run into Porirua Harbour at night. Tired crew and insufficient local knowledge meant that they did not follow the lights and ran aground several times on the way before sticking on the sandbank outside the Marina on a rising tide with the wind blowing them onto the breakwater. MR1 with 4 crew attended, putting 1 crew on the yacht to assist, towed them to deep water. From there she then motored safely into the breastworks outside Mana Cruising Club.
