    • Report of drifting boat in heavy seas
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Tue, 08/02/2011 - 21:00 - Wed, 09/02/2011 - 12:30 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  0 Police received a report of a boat seen drifting north from the Plimmerton area around Te Rewarewa Point (known locally as Tea Gardens) towards Pukerua Bay in heavy seas. The witness spotted the vessel from the top of the hill at Whiteraia Park and believed that it was drifting, possibly broken down. Coastguard Mana crew members were already in the area for their regular training night and responded in the rescue vessel Trust Porirua Rescue to search for the boat.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 06/02/2011 - 08:30 - 17:00 Operation Type:  Other People Assisted:  0 Coastguard Mana joined forces with Porirua City Council's emergency management office, the local Red Cross response team and Greater Wellington Regional Council's Harbourmaster to display at the Festival of the Elements in Porirua on Waitangi Day. The purpose of this was to display to the public the emergency management capabilities of the Porirua region and to provide some awareness of who we are and what we do.     • Outstanding response to call for volunteers
      • The response to the Kapi-Mana newspaper article calling for new volunteers to bolster our current crews has been better than expected. 13 people attended an introductory training session at yesterday's regular weekly training night. And with another article being published today in the Porirua News newspaper we are hoping for even more. read more
