Ballantyne Cup, 9k-2.6k handicap races, Strand Park

- The round-the-stopbanks races enjoyed conditions far better than forecast. Peter Stevens won the 1921 Ballantyne Memorial Cup after a delayed start (distracted by encouraging his daughter Julieta in the J-team race). Jeff Galt and Natham Bramley were second the third under handicap. Belinda Buck is the holder of the women's Shirley Barton Trophy for 2008, with Karen Jenkinson and returnee Barbara Tucker the runners-up.

MTBO Series Begins
- Wellington Orienteering Association
- The southerly front that brought snow to the Tararua and Rimutaka Ranges fortunately went through in the night leaving a cold but clear day for the start of this year's MTBO series. Andrew McLellan and Hilary Miller took the lead in the open classes, but younger riders also enjoyed Magnus Bengtsson's riverbank courses.
