The World on our doorstep

- Just imagine the reaction if a huge multistorey structure appeared at Queens Wharf, full of wealthy foreigners, and serviced by coaches that interfere with pedestrian movement. There'd be a huge outcry, wouldn't there?

Prospects with one event to go
- Wellington Orienteering Association
- After the OY at Waitarere two titles are already in OHV hands: Tim Robertson (M12) and Ian Basire (M60). But in M21A Bill Edwards (who didn't score thru controller duties) is poised to pass WOC's Magnus Bengtsson in the final; though he has to watch behind for Ross Morrison (HB) and Bryn Davies (RK).

Not Waiting For Waite Call
- Land Rovers Football Club
- Land Rovers Manager Steve Hall (right) said this afternoon it was far too early in the season to be offering assistance to beleaguered Team Wellington boss Mick Waite. Il Secondo Casino
- WellUrban
- Thanks to Kegan for drawing my attention to this article in today's Dominion Post: the Bresolin family wants to reopen Il Casino. Since the closure was announced in July, and the sale of the building confirmed in September, many Wellingtonians have felt a sense of loss, so this is indeed good news.

Maud Island frogs hop from island to mainland
- Karori Sanctuary Trust
- On 3 October, 30 rare Maud Island frogs were given a new home at Wellington's world-first Karori Wildlife Sanctuary. While this is not the first reintroduction of this rare amphibian to a mainland site (the Sanctuary achieved that conservation milestone back in February), this is the first time frogs transferred directly from Maud Island have been reintroduced to the mainland.

Chews clues
- WellUrban
- When I last wrote about the Chews Lane precinct, the only online image of the building planned for 45-55 Willis St showed what appeared to be an all-glass façade. The developers now have a detailed page for this building, including renderings and some PDF brochures with higher-res images, and it's clear that the building will have a mixture of glass and brick panels
