- Yip. We all heard about it. Wellington's finest kitsch-1940's-styled-Lyall-Bay-based Maranui Surf Life Saving Club and Cafe was a fiery inferno in the early hours of Saturday morning last weekend. Initially, charred like a lava rock, it looked doubtful whether this prominent seaside haven would be restored, BUT with overwhelming support from Wellington City Council, Wellington businesses and the Wellington community at large it will be.
