House of Fraser
- Capital Magazine
- Some say a spell living in Aro Valley is the rite of passage that qualifies you as a true Wellingtonian. Mention of Aro Valley evokes assorted reactions – a nostalgic sigh, a shiver, or sometimes an activist’s swagger. Or even an assertion that if you don’t know it you don’t “get” Wellington. We asked Sharon Greally to look into “the valley.” She talks to long time resident and friend, Hannah Fraser.

My favourite modernist building … Alington House
- Architectural Centre Inc
- I last went to the Alington house (Karori, 1962) 20 years ago as part of the Architectural Centre’s 50th Anniversary. I had been a couple of times before, and again I felt a feeling of calmness sweep over me – a sense of everything in its place. Perhaps this was due to the Golden Mean […]

My favourite modernist building … College House
- Architectural Centre Inc
- A mature work by what was at the time a young practice. Architecture is foremost about creating space and College House, Christchurch (Warren and Mahoney, 1964-70) does this. Much better than most. The quad is the star. In the finest tradition it organises the site. It is well proportioned and is surrounded by the buildings. […]

Roxy Cinema
- Reborn as The Roxy in 2011, this iconic Miramar building started life as The Capitol Theatre - a one-screen picture house, purpose built in 1928 to screen silent films. In 1932 the cinema was converted to screen 'talkies', and continued to show films until 1964, when it closed its doors. It then became local shopping centre 'Capitol Court' until falling into disrepair and lying vacant for a number of years.

A City for People
- Decades of inaction have meant house prices are out of control, while old rental properties rot out from underneath us. A whole generation of people are at risk of being forced out from the central city into new suburbs sprawling north, spending hours every day in traffic jams. We believe the Spatial Plan will allow Wellington to plan for the future so that new generations of Wellingtonians can share the city we love, and have a chance to live in a home that is affordable, accessible, healthy and warm.
