      • 24 is a new type of swim meet. 10 teams, each with 24 members in 3 age groups. $500 will be awarded to the winning team on the night. The meet will be held at WRAC on 1 May 2010. It will be fast paced, there’ll be no timekeepers (just the electronic timing), lots of noise and music. It’s sure to be fun.

    • Law Library Open
      • After a tremendous effort over the weekend from staff and students the Law Library is operational once more and all books have been reshelved. Levels 1 and 2 are completely open for business today. Level 3 is shut for minor repair to shelving units but staff can retrieve books from this level. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Law Library.

    • WIN! For Senior A Netball
      • A big CONGRATULATIONS to our Senior A Netball team for winning their College 1 Netball Grade on Saturday 22 August. It was a very close match but WHS pulled away in the 4th quarter to beat Wellington Girls 32-24.  The team played so well, kept to the game plan and have the result to show for it. Well done to everyone involved!

    • Swimmers caught in tidal stream in channel
      • Operation Details Date/Time:  Thu, 09/02/2012 - 16:30 - 16:45 Operation Type:  SAROP Cat 1 People Assisted:  2 Total Volunteer Hours:  1 Two swimmers were caught in the tidal flow exiting the channel into Porirua Harbour on an outgoing tide. This pushed them out of the channel entrance towards Goat Point. The swimmers were spotted waving and screaming for assistance and Coastguard Mana was activated by Police to assist. A training crew was already onboard Trust Porirua Rescue in the marina, engines fired up and ready to depart on a training excercise, when the call came through. They were able to depart immediately and were on scene within 3 minutes of the call from Police.       • Operation Details Date/Time:  Sun, 28/06/2015 - 03:00 - 03:15 Operation Type:  CG Operation (good samaritan) People Assisted:  1 Total Volunteer Hours:  1 Young girl was pulled from the water after falling from her kayak, being unable to empty it of water and get back aboard. Episode occurred near the Plimmerton Boating Club later in the afternoon of the mid-winter swim. Her father was anxiously watching from the shore. Fortunately MR2 was exercising close by and was able to respond very quickly. No callout was received - person was observed falling our of kayak by a crew member. The girl was deliver the few meters to shore and advised to take a hot shower - the water was very cold.       • Zephyr Rovers Chairmen George Nash said it was a sad day for the club after Rovers failed to make the top eight after a 9 - 4 loss to Mercer was followed by a win to Whites. "We looked safe with two weeks to go but we lost three on the trot so we have no excuses". Nash said the club would not be making any rash decisions with regard to the future of Manager Steve Hall. "We don't want to be hasty over our next move" said Nash "so we'll probably sack him tomorrow when we've had a chance to sleep on it".

      • The Porirua Hospital Museum and Resource Centre is housed in F-Ward, built in 1909 as part of the Porirua Hospital campus. It records the history of the development of mental health services in New Zealand from what can be considered their inception in 1844. The Museum, a Category 1 historic place, contains a collection of artefacts from the history of Porirua Hospital, including its time as a psychiatric facility.

    • The Thistle Inn
      • The Thistle Inn was built in 1840. she is the oldest hotel in NZ still trading from the original site. In July 1866 she was burnt to the ground but by December the same year she was back operating. You will see the original beer cellar through the glass floor. She is a Category 1 historic place building and was completely restored in 2004 (as close as possible to how she was in 1866).
