The new Manners Street: speed is needed if you want to object
- Wellington Scoop
- The Wellington City Council has issued a densely-packed document of 27 pages which describes changes to traffic flows and parking which are to be made in preparation for Manners Street becoming two bus lanes. The council invites everyone to study the 27 pages and send “submissions”. But this isn’t a consultation process. The council is seeking only “objections” and the “objection period” closes at the end of next week.

Ruahine Street: another Karo Drive debacle in the making
- Save the Basin Reserve!
- The Dominion Post is busy engaging in some 1960's era civic boosterism in today's editorial, talking up all the alleged benefits of the NZ Transport Agency's roading projects and hoping - hoping! - that the flyover, tunnels and road widenings won't take as long to construct as the much-derided Inner City Bypass.

Say Yes to sensible street changes (Kate Sheppard would approve)

Three lanes into two for the new Buckle Street tunnel
- Wellington Scoop
- Most Wellingtonians rightly believe that the Basin Reserve flyover will be a very expensive eyesore. Some have accepted it with the idea that it will improve traffic flows. But after a careful examination of the Transport Agency’s working plans, it seems obvious that the flyover will not improve overall traffic flows, but will more likely make rush hour traffic worse and cause more accidents.

Mount Street Cemetery
- The Mount Street Cemetery was the first cemetery in Wellington for Catholic burials and contains the graves of the first nuns and priests in Wellington. It remained open until 1891 although burials continued in existing family plots until 1954. The earliest surviving grave marker dates from 1851, and the latest from 1954. Although only around 200 headstones survive, it is estimated that there could have been as many as 750 to 800 burials. Many of the early markers were simple wooden crosses, which have long since vanished.
